How can you not hate the bastard after this?
People dying (literally) by the thousands, and he goes on Good Morning America.

People losing homes, belongings, loved animal companions, and this piece of human filth comes sauntering out of a helicopter - WITH A FUCKING TAN - holding his dog.

The government slashes hurricane funding, first response teams, and FEMA - and this son of a bitch asks for PRIVATE contributions to help the victims.

Please, if there is a God - put this sociopath in waist deep water in the middle of New Orleans. Give him a fucking bullhorn, a copy of The Bible, and Rick Santorum's home phone number.

Then sit back and watch.

1. Worse yet...knowing a major hurricane is devasting a huge
number of homes, people, businesses, etc....and he's off golfing.

What a prick. Guess lil' george needs his pamperin'. He is a spoiled rotten little rich prick frat boy, after all. His personal comfort is more important than THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE who have been affected by this, one of the most devasting natural disasters EVER to hit the US.

Impeach that grinning moron now!

So you have no right to assume we have all sat around with our hands on our keyboards.

This is Bush's clusterfuck and you know it.

on edit: I'm not comfortable telling people what I do, but in this case I made an exception. Now that he's gone, there's no sense seeming as if I am bragging.

claim is their belief, they usually strike out by changing the topic to language or grammar or spelling used in the post they are attacking.

10. um m m, no ... not "kinda like" him.
Posters here are not in the same position as Bush. Bush had the authority to maintain and increase funding for emergency response for disasters that are certain to happen such as hurricanes on the gulf coast. Bush is also in the position to authorize manpower and funds now for emergency response. Bush is in the position to have not sent our national guard and their equipment and vehicles to Iraq so that they would be available for national disasters like this, which is what they are intended for.

Right now, you can give blood and give money. Unless you can wrangle some time off work and drive down there to help personally and not a lot of people can afford that.

You're the one bitching about what other people are doing and TAKING OFFENSE AT OUR CRITICISMS OF BUSH (!!!!!). So the question is turned around on you. Answer it.

And made sure that other people are helping out, even if they can't make the time commitment to help the victims first-hand.

I'm not Bush. I don't have the power or the responsibility to help these people to the extent that our fucking president has. He has failed. He doesn't even have to be there (in fact, his presence would be pretty disruptive). But to provide little more than sound bites, to strum and golf and go on photo ops while peoples' lives are being destroyed. To not rush to Washington and coordinate the effort, to everything in his power to try to save drowning, homeless, displaced citizens affected by one of the worst natural disasters since the 1900's SF earthquake? That makes him a fucking negligent monster.

And you're a useless twit of a troll. I've seen better.

67. Something tells me somewhere there's an article about
a natural disaster in Iraq, and there's something there about how Sadaam responded to it.

Something tells me he didn't go golfing. In fact, I can't name another national leader who would do something like that, other than the crazy man in North Korea.

Sadaam may well have been a brutal leader, but there's no way he could be both crazy and stupid and still hold power for as long as he did. My opinion: even Sadaam would have responded beforehand.... when the hurricane was in the Gulf. When it hit Miami. When it was still in the Atlantic and obviously going to hit the US.

Any good, decent, protective leader would have done so. Ergo, * is none of those things.

"Thank our dependance on foreign oil for that."

We have oil men in the Oval Office. Did you presume they would assign research monies to alternative energy sources? Did you think they would do anything other than try to get their hands on more oil?

Well, here's a hint: a whole lot of it is floating on top of the water in NOLA. Because cuts were made to funding for disaster relief for the Big Blue Dot in the Red Sea, and because the people who would have provided the warm bodie to coordinate and conduct that relief are in Iraq and elsewhere.

And guess who's fault that is?

OK. Why didn't the demo elected officials see this coming? The governor is in the middle of a nervous breakdown - who knows where the mayor is hiding out at. Their voter base has taken less than 24 hours after the eye passed to begin this urban warfare. OK, fence it off and let 'em have New Orleans. All we need is the Super Port and the surrounding refineries.

86. It was silly to think it was a magic wand for such in the first place.
No single company or consortium has the capability to adequately respond to a natural disaster on this scale. That much is painfully obvious at this very moment. The government and the funding that was can (and have, in the past) provided disaster relief that was what was needed, where it was needed. Only our government and our military and National Guard members are able to respond as is needed.

Capitalism didn't cause this disaster, but it will always fail in its response to the same. Search-and-rescue operations, distribution of emergency supplies, and housing of the displaced should not ever be a for-profit endeavor. We're not talking about 'customers' here, we're talking about REFUGEES. The free market should not be involved, at all, unless it wants to simply give away what is needed- which would, of course, be he moral, Christian thing to do.

Speaking of which, who was it, again, who cut the disaster funding in the first place, and took the NG away, thus making this whole situation all the worse?

38. The point is, none of us- ANY American- should be EXPECTED to do so.
Edited on Thu Sep-01-05 10:43 AM by kgfnally
This is why we pay taxes- so when something like this happens, the resources are there to deal with the situation. Those resources these people needed are overseas fighting a needless war right now.

They are not conducting rescue operations. They are in Iraq.

They are not helping repair the canal. They are in Iraq.

They are not preventing looting. They are in Iraq.

By reducing the funding, * asked all Americans to directly bear the brunt of the disaster, rather than indirectly (via their taxes) and with better coordination. This is why the free market should not be the sole guarantor of disaster relief: it cannot do it as efficiently as a government operation can.

Most of us here are in no position to do anything other than send money, and many of those don't have enough spare change to send anything but their prayers, good vibes, positive energies, or whathaveyou. Would you have us desert our jobs? Would you have us lose our sources of income for our families and loved ones?

Can you guarantee that the free market employment community would not punish us for going to help directly, since our tax dollars weren't there in our stead?

Do you think the credit card company that just called me regarding a late payment would smile and say, "Oh, sure, why not" if I told them I'm suspending my payments to go help with my own two hands, as I would do if I could? Do you think my landlord will allow me to skip out on rent (since I won't be making any money working because I'm in NO helping with the disaster)? How about Consumers Energy? Do you think they would let me take my apartment off the grid for a month and suspend my payment to them as well? And cable? And telephone?

Get down off your self-sanctimonious high horse, and look at the bigger picture. There are a lot of people who would be all too willing to help if their debtors (read: owners) would allow them to suspend payments for the duration. Or are you going to be the one to reimburse us all for lost income?

Can you make that guarantee? I didn't think so.

49. The Department of Homeland Security
is supposed to be involved with natural disasters also. We fund them.

The National Guard and their equipment is supposed to be on hand for natural disasters. We fund them (whoops, you sent them to Iraq)

Do you propose that the government should only bail out large corps, and wage wars for big oil? Is it unreasonable to think that tax dollars would be better spent in New Orleans than in Iraq?

The bushtapo has been converting taxpayer dollars into private sector profits via the military for 5 years. Isn't it time a few tax dollars came back home?

Lets use any "contributions" to prosecute the bushtapo, and spend the tax dollars here.

89. we pay taxes
that should be enough-however the present administration has seen fit to shovel our taxes and the taxes of our kids and grandchildren into the pockets of the corporate oligarchy running this country. That includes the military industrial complex, the oil companies, who, BTW are posting record profits-more of our money being 'regularly donated' to that area, Halliburton and the Carlisle group as well. Oh and private contractors in Iraq doing soldiers' jobs for sometime 4-5 times the pay.

25. THe blind hatred that I feel for this man and his entire
ship of fools knows no bounds. Someday I will get over it, but not today
or the day after. And I feel such rage toward everyone who voted
for this. May they reap what they have sown spiritually and materially. In return for a $300 tax return and the promise that
gay people would not have the right to love one another in our
society, they sold out their own dreams and rights as citizens of
a free society. May their sorry asses rot in the hell they have
established in the name of their rabid, punishing God.

But the rest of us must join in rebuilding our democracy and
the fabric of our society to match the intent expressed in our
constitution and our hearts regarding the shape of our society.

I am going to DC in Sept to join with other voices asking that this
nutjob be impeached and that the war he started to enhance his
manhood be stopped right now.

As for the freeper, if "are you contributing to the levee effort?" is the best argument you have to defend your Chimperial Majesty, then you are truly grasping for straws.
