No "Miracle at Dunkirk" for New Orleans?

I'm a WWII history buff and I've always marvelled at the "Miracle at Dunkirk" where thousands of British Citizens mobilized small boats and yachts of every size to evacuate the British Army trapped on the shores of France at Dunkirk. They took off over 300,000 troops and safely transported them across the English Channel to safety.

Where is the mass mobilization to get people out of harms way in New Orleans?

Why can't we have our own "Miracle at Dunkirk"? Where is the leadership? Where is the will?

I'm Urban SAR trained as well as First Aid, but noone is coordinating a response. The only thing that is coordinated is the effort to keep people out.

I feel just about useless.

They were turned away by authorities.

5. Also compare the "Berlin Airlift"

when the Soviets blockaded West Berlin for 9 months and all supplies were flown in. At its height a plane per minute was landing in Berlin.
