There's a BIG difference between looting and scavenging
If my family were trapped in NOrleans and we had no food or water, you bet I would be breaking into a store to get essential supplies. Call me a looter, so be it. But my responsibility is to keep my family alive, and if robbing a store is required to do so, I'd do it without hesitation.

1. Exactly. "BILL ME!"

And fretting over people NON-violently stealing non-essential goods is also pointless in this particular scenario.

2. It's seeing their God the Almighty Dollar rendered worthless which...
terrifies all of the RWers.

They can't even imagine a situation where a tool they've
used all of their lives to get what they want is rendered
worthless. A bottle of clean water is worth more.

It terrifies them.

3. True, but they're all called "looters" by the media..
(and, actually, they ARE all "looters" by definition, so the media isn't wholly to blame)

We need to keep in mind that SOME of the "looters" are scavenging what they need to survive and SOME of the "looters" are boatjacking at gunpoint and shooting up hospitals to get drugs.

They need to be dealt with in different ways, so claiming that we should shoot ALL "looters" is silly. So is whining about resources being diverted to deal with "looters".

6. Relax, I'm one of the ones on YOUR side...
However, after three days with no assistance, I can understand how some might steal food and water. I'm genarally appalled by the way some here have excused looting.

That aside, I hoped that keeping in mind that the term "looter" covers a wide range of people and that all "looters" should neither be defended nor shot might calm things down a bit.

Working like a charm, ain't it? :eyes:

4.  how many tv, guns, designer clothes & dvds can looters eat?
Most decent people in New Orleans are NOT looting. They are gathering together and making plans, using their heads and hearts to try to salvage their humanity. They are not burning buildings, stealing whole display cases of electronics, and shooting at cops with stolen rifles.

STOP THIS FUCKING DEFENSE OF LOOTERS. I'M SO DISGUSTED WITH SOME OF YOU

7. I would shoot looters to defend my family.
If we were holed up in our own house and someone comes in intending to steal our food, water, money, or daughters, they're dead. Period.
