Poll question: Are you confident that the Federal government will keep your city safe?

If there's a similar natural disaster in your state?

I did, for the first 30 years of my life. Apparently I was deluded, the federal government is less than worthless. I will never trust the government again, Republican or Democrat. Another casualty of 5 years of BushCo.

Of course, that was always good advice, but New Orleans is becoming an object lesson in how far gone our government has become.

The people that should be most interested in the safety of a city are the people living in the that city and their elected Mayor.

I know I was interested. I live in Florida and followed that storm for days and days.

What happened in NO? The very authorities that should have been most interested in what that hurricane could do were some of the least interested until it was too late.

That level of agreement is amazing! It almost never happens.

Further, NO was in the "cone" since Friday 5 am and right in the middle of projected path by 11 pm.





I'm not saying anyone deserved any of what happened. But I do think that part of the loss has to be blamed on complacency and expecting someone else to pay attention. Walking around thinking that the Federal government is going to be there to save you is down right dangerous.

i think they would actually attack it. Since there seems to be such a disregard for poor blacks in NOLA, I have no reason thinking they wouldnt do the same to the poor blacks in Pittsburgh.

in fact, now that they are becoming accustomed to ethnic clensing (blacks in NOLA, muslims in Iraq) perhaps the ** government would be willing to outright attack my city to get rid of blacks and democrats.

Well, maybe to some degree. But anybody that puts all their saftey in the hands of people 1,000s of miles away is an idiot.

Mayors are the people charged first with keeping the city safe. That's one reason we have them. They are the cities' CEOs. Of anyone, they should know best how to handle the city's safety.

I don't know where to start. How bout' the way Homeland Security money has been dished out by the * administration like Political Campaign Contributions. Money used to upgrade First Responder systems.

When I heard the Mayor of New Orleans say that the biggest problem they had early on was "communication"... I was floored. The city literally didn't know what was happening because they didn't have anyway to communicate with the first responders..... or the people. They had no hard backup system to use... in this the "greatest nation on earth" :-( New Orleans became not unlike any other city in some 3rd world country.

Let's also chat about how the tax cuts have helped :eyes: cities all across this country by forcing them to reduce the number of first responders and their equipment.

I could go on.... but it would be pointless. The fact is.. the federal government has everything to do with keeping people in the country safe.

This is an argument for federal responsibility? The federal government spends based on politics rather than safety and you think they should be more involved? :crazy:

Why can't cities raise their taxes to pay for such things? It makes little sense to send the money to DC only to have it sent back to you.

We don't trust the federal government to perform one of it's primary functions, disaster relief. Bullshit wars and treasury looting aside, this solidifies the fact that our government is not working for the people any longer. Why then should we continue to recognize and fund the government? We have no leadership, no representation and no security. Yet if I refuse to pay taxes for lack of representation I will be imprisoned.
