5. There is no gas in the stations around my home.

I live in Gwinnett county and commute to Cumming each day. Before anyone blasts me for my location, I have to tell you that I live where I live because my partner commutes to Athens each day - and my work options are all in the Atlanta area, so we live somewhere in between the two cities. I filled up my tank yesterday morning, before the run on the gas stations. That was fortunate for me, because last night there were tremendous lines at most of the gas stations I passed along Buford Dam Road, Hamilton Mill, Braselton Highway, and GA 324. The only stations that had no lines were the ones that had run out of gas. I wanted to top off my tank, but figured that I would sacrifice my feelings of security for others who needed the fuel more. This morning, there were much fewer lines, because all but 2 stations along my commute were completely out of fuel except for diesel. The two stations that were still open were showing $3.89 a gallon, and the lines were tremendous.

I listen to NPR each morning and evening, and wanted to kick someone when I heard the Georgia governor pronounce there was no fuel shortage in the Atlanta area. I wonder when "Out of gas" means no fuel shortage? I have heard stories from others in my office of gas stations charging nearly $6.00 a gallon for regular gasoline. I think the state of emergency is merely an effort to prosecute station owners for bilking the public.
