I'm doing this to take our minds off of other things...

Me:

Large tax cuts for people that drive hybrids, electric cars, and cars that get above 40+ mpg.
Tax cuts for the middle-class and poor.
Massively increase FEMA funding.
Massively decrease military funding.
Pull the troops out of Iraq.
Repeal every fucking thing that Congress has approved since the beginning of 2001.

Yours?

2. Add: Massive investments in domestic infrastructure.
There are liabilities just like New Orleans' levee system all over the country now.

4. My platform:
"In every situation, I will do the EXACT OPPOSITE of George W. Bush!"

That covers it all, don't you think?

6. Tax credits for the people who drive hybrids and electric cars
Edited on Thu Sep-01-05 01:01 PM by Arkana
is a novel idea.

I would also:

-Repeal the damn Patriot Act.

-Raise taxes on those making over $100,000 a year. Feel the heat, rich boys. You can afford to pay more, so pay more!

-Help parents send their kids to college by offering a tax credit (specifically for education, probably in the form of a government grant) to families that collectively make less than $40,000 a year (this would be negotiable).

-Increase emissions standards for oil, fund projects that search for alternative energy sources, and stop the rape and plunder of the environment by killing the ANWR initiative and stopping the drilling in the national parks.

-Finally tell the Saudis to stuff it, and if they want to have ANY friends in the world then maybe they should quit executing people for being homosexual, female, etc.

-Immediately meet with advisors and troop commanders to come up with a plan for withdrawal from Iraq.

-As the troops leave, I move to cut off al-Qaeda funding, thus hurting terrorism where it will hurt most--in the wallet. Without money, the movement will begin to dry up, and maybe, just maybe Iraq might become stable.

-Send Bill Clinton to the UN as ambassador and repair our relationship with the world community.

-Openly support GLBT rights, including marriage.

-Institute affordable health care for every American. People need it, whether they can afford it or not.

-Decrease military funding, but only back to pre-Duhbya levels.

-Above all, I would work to make Americans believe in themselves again--in their security, both physical and financial, and in their future. A "Pax Americana," just as John F. Kennedy envisioned.

7. Seems to me you'd still have to raise taxes somewhere....
that $145,000 per person debt payment isn't just going to go away. Windfall taxes would be my first order of business, reinstating estate taxes, and making sure the rich pay their fair share of taxes. But I doubt Americans would vote for that, and even if they did, the RWers would off me.

We need more than hybrids and electric cars - 10's of millions of people can't afford them, even with tax breaks. We need a massive mass transit project in this country, combined with alternative energy/fuels. Anything less will just be a band-aid on the dike.

8. Restore FEMA as an INDEPENDENT NON-PARTISIAN AGENCY
with enough fuding to do it's job IN SPITE of the adminstration..

.. immediate 'Apollo/Manhattan' project for energy independence/alternative energy sources.

.. immediate establishment of "Wind Farms" thru the midwest where millions of acres stand empty.

.. low-cost/high-effiecency solar. It exist, funding for research was slashed by guess who.

.. begin immediate reconstruction of the power grid throught the nation to form a 'power mesh' where there is no 'central point of failure' and allow easier 'back feeding' of independent power generation to the mesh.

... immediate incentives to begin the setup of 'alternative' power station to supplement gas stations (hydrogen, propane, fast charge electric, air (air? yes, air.. read next).

... GET THESE CARS IN THIS COUNTRY IMMEDIATLY http://www.theaircar.com/ they run on COMPRESSED AIR.

10. Ooooh, I love this compressed air car!
but there are still 10's of millions of people in this country who cannot afford to buy a new car, even with tax breaks. So we must have a massive, WPA-style mass transit project. Light rail & subways where appropriate, more & clean-running busses everywhere else.

9. I've always said, we should address our concerns before we help others.
Hate to sound selfish, but I feel, if we cannot address the issues we have here like poverty, homelessness, and joblessness how can we address these issues in other countries. He can we tell other countries how to vote, when voting regulations are messed up here. How can we tell other countries not to discriminate, when there is discrimination going on here. That would be my platform!
