The Convention Center is right along the river. Can't they get ANY supply ships to there? Either from upstream or up from the Gulf?!?!

1. River is almost certainly impassable south of New Orleans

Katrina came right through there. You're probably looking at bank-to-bank fallen trees and debries.

Just as boats were washed ashore, debris, perhaps entire buildings, have been washed into that areas rivers. Not to mention sandbars having moved, etc...

I'd assume they are working on it. But I'd be surprised to see large shipping reaching that far in for a few more days at best.

I'm a fixed wing pilot, with a fixed wing pilots leeriness towards helicopters. But this is the type of situation where 'copters reign supreme. They need to fly in heavy equipment and clear landing/distribution zones for water, food and tarps now.

Every 'copter in the nation should be heading that direction.

Also, the elevated water level would mean reduced bridge clearance.

know what craft are availale. But things are pretty fucked up down there. Thousands of tonnes of debris must be rushing down the river.

6. They can certainly pull small flat barges

like the ones I found that are perfect for helping a city block at a time.

These could probably be pulled by a pair of swamp boats.
