Chertoff has no experience qualifiying
him for this job. He was rewarded with this position for having served as Ken Starr's assistant during the Whitewater investigationa against the Clintons. He is a political crony of the right wing. What we are now seeing come to bear is what happens when an American administration is composed of political hacks rather than qualified professionals.

1. his job is primarily legal, not tactical or structural
He was hired to pull together 20+ huge burrocracies and work out the legal relationships therein.

His biggest nightmare was that something happened on his watch. it did.

At least he does not lunch with the Fed Chair today.

3. That's the story of all bush appointments
political rewards, not what is best for America.

It is infuriating

4. We will soon learn how those qualified only via RW ideology can manage:
but have we not already learned that through the occupation debacle?

5. you go w/ the OHS you have, not the OHS you want

If we can send diplocrats to mexico who insult and piss off people,
If we can send Boltons to the UN
If we can send Wolfies to World Bank
If we can send torture supporters to run our Justice Dept
If we can keep rummie folks in charge of DOD
If we can send Condi to lecture Russsia, China and India,
If we can promote Boytons as religious warriors,

Tell me, why shouldn't Chertoff run OHS based on ideology? Everything else in the country is being ruined.

Excuse me, please. I am getting so damned pissed off at what has become of my country that my sarcasm controls have fritzed out temporarily.

6. Yet idolatrous throngs would still chant: four more years, four more years
for none of this matters a whit to them.
