I know I'm not alone when I say that I've cried more than a few tears for the people in the gulf. The destruction is beyond comprehension and how these people are going to eat, sleep and get beyond their worst nightmares should never be a dilemna in the richest country of the world. Because of my political involvement, I've been getting numerous requests asking for donations to help the people suffering from the devastation of Katrina. People know I'm involved because I care, so I'm always a target for requests for money and then the self-centered conservatives accuse us of being radicals. Yes, we're going to look into our finances and see just how much we can give. I'm sure all of you are doing the same, but I can't help but have this nagging feeling ... The profits of insurance, oil and pharmaceutical companies over the past 5 years, especially since Bush has been in office, are astronomical. Their gouging of the American consumer have been crippling our economy and is about to break us beyond what most people are ready for. Their net worth in obscene. The oil production in the gulf has come to a stand still. As many people have pointed out, we import the oil we use for our gasoline. This halt in the current production is for the exporting of oil. In other words, the oil companies that are enjoying all Bush's tax cuts and corporate shelters, the same ones who made a 65% increase in profit in just the last year, are not incurrng any of the losses themselves for the shut down in the gulf. Within the very first day, they again passed it along to us, which is taking all of us to our knees economically. WHY AREN'T DEMANDING THAT THEY PAY UP FOR A CHANGE? George W. Bush did not cause this hurricade. I have my questions about 9/11, but that's another rant I'll get to another time. What this person did, though, is he was so anxious to pursue his oil-ridden war with every asset necessary, including our National Guard and funds and rescue programs for national disasters. They had three days' warning that this storm was coming in and very little was done to get those people out of harm's way and have enough supplies to care for them. In fact, Bush wouldn't even cut his vacation short until enough people started screaming about it. I got to ask. Do you really feel safer with this leadership? Do you feel safer that they're fighting over there so we don't have anybody over here? Do you feel safer now with Saddam out of power? What's going to happen when the next catastrophe hits? Is the warm fuzzy memory of the people in Iraq who spent a few days with inked fingers going to sustain us for the future? Are we tired of hearing these stupid talking points from the right yet? It makes me sick! We all know our leadership is nothing more than criminals pardoned by a former president and brought back to finish their deeds. We all know that we've been lied to about this war on terror. We all know that this president would have never made it into the White House without all the dirty games played by his advisors. We all know that not only are these businesses stealing from all of us right in front of our faces, but the congress who sold us out all year long finished the year off with a raise to themselves, Karl Rove, while being under investigation for the worst crime of treason was also given a raise. Billions, maybe even trillions of "borrowed" taxpayer money is missing. Where is it? A lot of this wealth could help the people in the gulf in a huge way? As you dig into your finances and pull out the very meager amount you have left over, remember that you can make a larger contribution by standing up and demanding that these people and companies that have financially been raping our country need to step up to the plate and do what America does. We take care of those in need.
