3. tom oliphant on aar talking about this and he doesnt like it too much
Edited on Thu Sep-01-05 01:59 PM by faithnotgreed
he says he is concerned that this is more of a photo op from the govt and that he is afraid that this money is all well and good but it will most definitely take away from money/resources that is really needed over the long haul in new orleans etc

tom has been around a long time in washington and has seen this before
another important aspect is that he also feels this type of emergency funding always gets diluted

he adds he is afraid this will just be a few billion for ice cubes - and allow bush to announce how many ice bags this will buy like he did in yesterdays press conference - and then that will basically be it for funding

"we have national priorities that need to be addressed and none of them will be"

and notice its the republicans announcing this information (amounts etc)

tom is also giving credit to sen landrieu because he said she has been asking for years for federal assistance to restore the gulf coast environmentally because she knows this is a crucial (missing) piece of why places flood and similar destruction
