Things you never thought you'd say: "Where's Al Haig when we need him?"

"As of now, I am in control here in the White House."

The government NEEDS to do it all now, and FAST:

get water to the people
restore order
rescue those trapped
stop the looting/violence
get an armada of busses to evacuate the Superdome people
FIX the levees, then start up the pumps

it's not a question of which by the way - it's all.
Affirmative action for the wealthy has really bit us in the ass this time. WE HAVE NO PRESIDENT! :grr:

3. When Reagan was shot, Haig busted the order of command & said
Edited on Thu Sep-01-05 03:20 PM by CottonBear
on live national tv "I am in charge here" thus scaring the crap out of everyone who was wondering where the hell VP Bush and the Speaker of the House were.

It was a moment that no one whosaw it will ever forget. Haig is a very conservative and stern former military guy.

5. It's kind of a joke, but it makes a point -
Back in '81, when Reagan was shot, Haig, who was Secretary of State at the time, made the quote (given) to the press. Haig wasn't really in charge - the VP (Poppy Bush) was, and he was on his way back to the White House (I think). Also, the Sec of State is NOT no.3 in the chain of command.

And Haig already had a reputation for being a bit of a power-hungry loose cannon even before this incident.

4. I sort of been wondering the same thing
He's a little old for the job, but right now SOMEONE needs to stand up and say "I'm in charge here" --an ass kicking Army General or Nat Guard General ---ANYONE.

6. Haig is and was a total basket case
Always thought he was a flake.

Then again, he would be an improvement over what we have now.
