FRESH WATER SOURCE in NO & other cities... PLEASE pass
I see films of people in desperate need of water. Some are sitting outside of high buildings. There IS a source. This is life and death. It must be done!

High buildings have bathrooms on each floor. The water in the toilet tanks is clean. 3-5 gallons in each tank per toilet.

I live in earthquake country, and we know that the toilet storage tank holds life-saving clean water. We always consider that if disaster strikes, we know we have 3 gallons of safe water.

The higher the building, the more toilet tanks with good, safe water.

Please, if you can get a message out, there is good water stored in tall buildings.

But a question: How are people to get into these buildings if they are locked? (there are legalities here - and judging by how they are handling the "looting" - I would be afraid to break into a building)

16. I'll bet that most high rise bldgs have glass entryways that blew out
when the storm hit. Or they'd have people in them (or in the case of hotels, people that evacuatd them). I think it's be pretty easy to get in.

The toilets all started spewing raw sewage in some areas. This really might not be feasible.

22. Yes, from the tank
The lady that lives across the street from my mom had this happen. Giant surge of nasty water came both from the bowl and from the tank.

29. That is correct, most are flkush valve/tankless type
There may be some water in the piping though, I would imagine most modern buildings would have backflow preventers on their water system so even without water pressure the pipes would still be filled, unless people have left faucets open or already gravity drained the system.

Fire sprinkler water is NOT potable.

28. After the tsunami, our nuclear aircraft carriers provide IMMENSE amounts

of pure, fresh water from their onboard production facilities. The numbers for capacity are enormous, astonishing - I tried to look for that post for the true numbers but the DU search feature is currently turned off.

Immediately after the tsunami, these carriers were on-site saving lives with that water. Where are they now?

We need to airlift water and also bring in and set up water production/purification plants. If they can be set up on an aircraft carrier, they can be set up in community centers.

All possible short-term and long-term sources of fresh, clean water must be mobilized NOW.

38. If they have tank type toilets, this is a good idea, but most
commercial buildings use pressure flush valves, not tank toilets.

What high rise buildings **may** well have is water storage tanks on the upper floors.

It's WAY more drinkable than what's in the streets.

Treat with bleach if unsure.
