Too bad. We told them to get out.
Do you think that is what is being said being closed doors at BushCo

http://www.democrats.org/a/2005/09/chertoff_blames.php

"The critical thing was to get people out of there before the disaster," he said on NBC's Today program. "Some people chose not to obey that order. That was a mistake on their part."

Do you think the lack of response come from an executive decision like that. They didn't leave when we told them so it isn't that big a deal to get them out now?

1. Were the sick and elderly supposed to walk out?
The evacuation provided no buses.

5. I guess nobody told the stupid fucker that (roughly) 150,000 people
in that city don't own a car!

But what would he know about that? He can't even grasp the concept of someone who doesn't own his own jet!

7. This is the difference between the left and right.
The left is about helping each other and the right is about helping themselves while giving the finger to everyone else.

9. Many didn't have a choice, their situations wouldn't permit them
to leave. And besides, that point shouldn't even be up for discussion. What insensitivity- I told you so and you didn't listen so now you can starve and possible die! How cruel!

10. Do these people have any idea that telling people to get out ...
may not be enough? Some people don't have the means to get out and need help. You know, government aid in getting out - before the disaster hits.

11. Cuz MSM was still in Aruba and Bush didn't STRESS EVACUATION seriously
enough for the CORPORATE MEDIA to stress it, either. If all the news channels were saying GET THE FUCK OUT....then I could see some of those who chose to stay to be more responsible for their decision.

But alot of them had no choice, no transport, and no way to even communicate. They did as they were told when they went to seek shelter.

12. yes, it was a mistake not to leave
but so fucking what? it doesn't matter anymore, they need our help NOW.

to preempt the coming comments. Yes, many people had limited resources and chose to stay in New Orleans rather than spend scarce resources to leave. Had the levees not failed, this would have been a good decision. how many people in the SuperDome do you think are saying to themselves "why didn't I leave on Sunday?" And yes, more of an effort could have been made to aid and force evacuations, but it wasn't.

13. Just take into consideration that many people who stayed do not
have house insurance and live in bad neighbourhoods. The government should have paid to have proper levees in place.

14. Authoritarianism?
Does it go something like this?

"Tough shit. We're the party of self-responsibility and accountability! They made their choice. This'll teach the kitchen help not to disobey the next time Commander KuckooBananas gives an order!"

Authoritarians are attempting to redefine and re-frame the contract between the governed and the government right now before our eyes. The chaos and uncertainty that people are experiencing at the moment makes them psychologically vulnerable to accepting this crap more readily too - especially subconsciously.
