Nothing speaks so loud as that deafening silence I hear right now...
...from the rest of the world.

Remember 9-11 and the outpouring from the entire world immediately afterward of sympathy, and condolences?

Countries from all around the globe, like France, England, Russia, Germany, Japan, and others, offering help, aid, money. manpower and giving their deepest sympathies to us in a genuine outpouring of affection. I remember England immediately saying after it happened saying "today, we are all American."

This has been a disaster of biblical proportions that has dwarfed 9-11, and after the numbers are totaled up, will be remembered as one of the worst in loss of life and property, in all of U.S. history. Yet the world is for the most part, silent. No outpouring from the rest of the world of sympathy, no offers for help. On the contrary, it is as if there is an attitude of "good, you deserved it"

Has this current administrations bullying, and imperialistic attitude toward the world so alienated us from everyone that this is the sympathy we deserve?

The silence is very loud right now.

8. Geez, may countries have offered help, have almost pleaded to
be allowed to help and bush's response was 'send cash money' and refused any REAL assistance.

The right-wing meme that no one is offering help is beyond bullshit!

10. Actually, there are many offers of help and relief and condolences.
The tsunami countries want to help, Europe is helping with gasoline since refineries are down, etc.

I think everyone is horrified by the scope of the disaster and shocked by the poor relief response.

I'm shocked.

14. Canada has loaded planes on the tarmac for two days now trying
to get permission to fly from the administration; Chavez has offered (remember they tried to assassinate him); France has offered (Freedom Fries, hate the French.)

Others have offered, but those are the allies we have treated the worst.

They can understand the difference between NOLA and the Bush Administration.

16. I agree it's loud, but not from silence. Read this article:
http://www.leadingthecharge.com/stories/news-0066351.html

Katrina Prompts Global Support for Victims

VIENNA, Austria - From papal prayers to telegrams from China, the world reacted with an outpouring of compassion Wednesday for the victims of Hurricane Katrina in messages tinged by shock that a disaster of this scale could occur in the United States.

Venezuela‘s government, which has had tense relations with Washington, offered humanitarian aid and fuel. Venezuela‘s Citgo Petroleum Corp. pledged a $1 million donation for hurricane aid.

Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz also called President Bush to offer assistance. The minister of petroleum and mineral resources said Monday that Saudi Arabia is ready to immediately increase its crude oil production to replace any market shortages and help stabilize world crude prices.

"Nature proved that no matter how rich and economically developed you are, you can‘t fight it," says Danut Afasei, a local official in Romania‘s Harghita county, where flooding killed 13 people last week.

_____________________

I wish I could post the entire article because it also mentions the responses from various European countries like France, the UK, and Germany.

Just because our media doesn't report it, it doesn't mean we're not getting condolences and offers of support.

20. I suggest you send this link to the right-wing media talking head
who is spewing this bullshit:

Aid offers pour in from around the globe

Boats, aircraft, tents, blankets, generators, cash assistance and medical teams have been offered to the U.S. government in Washington or in embassies overseas.

Offers have been received from Russia, Japan, Canada, France, Honduras, Germany, Venezuela, Jamaica, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece, Hungary, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, China, South Korea, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, NATO and the Organization of American States, the spokesman said

snip (bush's response)

Still, Bush told ABC-TV: “I’m not expecting much from foreign nations because we hadn’t asked for it. I do expect a lot of sympathy and perhaps some will send cash dollars. But this country’s going to rise up and take care of it.”

“You know,” he said, “we would love help, but we’re going to take care of our own business as well, and there’s no doubt in my mind we’ll succeed. And there’s no doubt in my mind, as I sit here talking to you, that New Orleans is going to rise up again as a great city.”
