1. Clinton was on screen a short while ago supporting bush's
handling of this, it was VERY disappointing, to say the least. I can understand if he felt he couldn't outright criticize bush but he backed him up all the way and volunteered to speak on it.

21. He said the disaster was not foreseeable. He knows that's not
true and he should be able to draw a distinction between making sure those in need get help and providing a smokescreen for the administration.

5. I am all for him holding people's feet to the fire,
and making them take action. But, so far, all I've seen him do is go before the cameras and make excuses for Bush's criminal mismanagement and absense. Sorry... I have lost major respect for the man.

10. Exactly right...
Too bad the pathological Bush (turned Clinton) haters here can't get past their own hatred to look at the big picture.

I am sure the people in New Orleans are very dissapointed that Clinton chose to help them rather than bash Bush!!! :sarcasm:

19. The genocide of the poor? Pray what do you think Welfare Reform
did to the poor?

Clinton shredded Welfare and treated the poor like pond scum but 'normal' Americans didn't notice because it didn't affect them personally. Now that it does, because Bush is throwing ordinary White people in that same pond, well, now it's a tragedy.

Clinton. Pffft. Effing DLC.

The early 1990s marked a staggering increase in the number of poor children under age six, which reached six million for the first time in 1992, and rose to almost 6.4 million in 1993. From 1993 to 1996 the number of poor children under age six declined by almost 14 percent, to 5.5 million--a figure that is still higher than that in any year between 1975 and 1990. At the same time, the young child poverty rate decreased from 26 percent to 23 percent.

This publication updates One in Four: America’s Youngest Poor, and continues a series of reports and statistical updates about young child poverty in the United States.
