11. Cafferty was UNBELIEVABLE! Here is the transcript of his first tirade!

http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0509/01/sitroom.01.html

Jack Cafferty, we keep saying it gets worse every single day. And it's clearly worse today than yesterday.

JACK CAFFERTY, CNN ANCHOR: Well, and the thing that's most glaring in all of this is that the conditions continue to deteriorate for the people who are victims in this are and the efforts to do something about it don't seem to be anywhere in sight.

I want to read you something, Wolf. This is a quote from an editorial: "A better leader would have flown straight to the disaster zone and announced the immediate mobilization of every available resource. The cool, confident, intuitive leadership Bush exhibited in his first term, particularly in the months following 9/11, has vanished." Now that's not from some liberal rag. That is an editorial from one of the most conservative newspapers in the country, New Hampshire's "Union Leader."

"The New York Times," not unexpectedly, kind of chimed in. They said the President showed up a day later than he was needed, and they excoriated him for appearing casual to the point of carelessness. Harsh words coming from FEMA's former Disaster Response Chief Eric Tolbert who says the government was not ready and shifted its attention from natural disasters to fighting the war on terror.

The questions that we ask on THE SITUATION ROOM every afternoon, Wolf, are posted on the website two or three hours before we go on the air. And people who read the website often begin to respond before the show actually starts. The questions this hour is how would you rate the response of the federal government to Hurricane Katrina? I got to tell you something. We got 5 or 600 letters, before the show even went on the air. No one, no one says the federal government is doing a good job in handling one of the most atrocious and embarrassing and far reaching and calamitous things that has come along in this country in my lifetime. I'm 62. I don't remember -- I remember the riots in Watts. I remember the earthquake in San Francisco. I remember a lot of things.

I have never ever seen anything as badly bungled and poorly handled as this situation in New Orleans. Where the hell is the water for these people? Why can't sandwiches be dropped to those people that are in that Superdome down there? I mean what is going -- this is Thursday. This is Thursday. This storm happened five days ago. It's a disgrace. And don't think the world isn't watching. This is the government the taxpayers are paying for, and it's fallen right flat on its face, as far as I can see, in the way it's handled this thing.

We're going to talk about something else before the show is over, too, and that's the big elephant in the room. The race and economic class of most of the victims, which the media hasn't discussed much at all, but we will a bit later -- Wolf.

i hate that the MSM keeps using the term "people" are doing blank. When it is really just one incident.

For example "people" are turning over rescue workers' boats. (only one of these incidences has been reported)

Kinda like the "people say" thing that they have been doing for a while.

rescue. It's the first thing you learn in lifesaving. Any victim must be approached with caution, and you must always be able to break free, because they will try to climb on your head. My preference was the hair carry, because they can't reach you.

87. the minute he started his laissez faire attitude about bringing food
into NO, I went reaching for the remote. Anytime the reporters get apologetic for the federal response, I just can't listen to it without vomiting.

the other thing I can't stand is listening to the media spin and push this "lawlessness" like a cowboy on crack.

the REAL issue isn't the "lawlessness" but WHY are there people scaveging for food and water? and that is certainly not lost on the media. once again, they are trying to underspin the situation to cover up for the government's ineptitude and theivery.

84. Irony is Sen Landrieu has been arguing for flood avoidance and
evacuation efforts for years! I've seen her and listened and if there is one person "NOT" responsible for this human tragedy it is her. She's done and will continue to do her darndest. Now that being said, let's let Cooper go off on FEMA. Come on, let's see his cojones when the real villians appear. I doubt it.

124. Everybody's just pissed that she's not bringing those responsible for this
to task. I have no doubt that she led the efforts to make NO as safe as possible in the event of a bad hurricane, since this wasn't unexpected. But it's the aftermath, flooding and botched rescue plan, that is responsible for the large casualty count, with no end in sight. And it's Bush* who cut funding for levee repairs and environmental protections for NO. She must know and be very angry about this...:-(

As for Cooper, I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't let up. Cafferty, who's a conservative and is safe and dry in NY, went off on the sorry efforts of this administration. Cooper is right in the thick of it, has seen the carnage and misery, first-hand. If Cafferty's pissed, Cooper must be livid...:grr:

Time for Pols to start actually getting the job done, and stating outright who exactly was responsible for this.

Because I can guarantee, the blame will start flying fast and furious very soon and I want to hear the truth, not spin.

109. She KNOWS the TRUTH she is Bush's biggest NIGHTMARE
yes anderson. Why go after her? is he looking for real answers? if so, very commendable. but I don't trust him. If he doesn't know that Sen Landrieu's major issue in DC has been hurricane preparedness. She subborns her love for the kids (she is a title 1 advocate) to this purpose. She's a damned prophet.

Now, all I'm wondering is if we just witnessed another Karl Rove moment. What is motivating Cooper is all. May be he has heart. If so then like I said, I'm wrong and I'm sorry.

The TRUTH should be his objective, not another Karl Rove soundbite. Who arranged the interview? Would he talk the same talk to the President? I don't trust him because he hasn't spoken much truth for the first four years of this administration.

To make it perfectly clear, what would you think if he tried to take the same tack with Hillary Clinton. She's also a senator and is equal to Sen Landrieu in her responsibility for the carnage. May be more to Blame.

114. I think Cooper should get an Oscar for that performance
Edited on Thu Sep-01-05 08:00 PM by Jose Diablo
Look, Cooper was one of the biggest boosters Bu$h had in the lead-up to the war in Iraq. At least an Emmy Award. He should have been an actor.

And now we see him blasting someone that KNOWS how big Bu$h fucked-up with taking money from the Army Engineers that should have paid for improvements in the levees around New Orleans.

I am not swayed by Coopers tears. Screw him and get Landrieu to start proceedings against this criminal outfit called the Bu$h administration.

I don't know why Landrieu didn't use this opportunity to burn Bu$h a new one. I would have, but I am not a politician. I would suggest sending Landrieu some e-mails pointing-out Bu$h's criminal negligence, which is rapidly becoming widespread knowledge and encouraging Congressional/Senatorial action to get to the bottom of Bu$h's theft of the money that should have gone to the levee maintenance. And to top all of this, Fats was in New Orleans, I hope he is OK.

This diversion of money has killed thousands.

Edit: Spell checker doesn't correct context problems. BTW, anybody else remember FEMA's first statement about how economically this hurricane's impact would be minimal. Well, if NO remains underwater for 3-6 months, probably every residence will have to bulldozed under. As for the port itself, how can cargo transfer from ocean to river be done without workers. Any rough guesses on the economic impact on the total loss of all residences plus the disrupting to shipping, to say nothing about the loss of refining capabilities and impact of higher fuel costs to all of us?

They really screwed the pooch on this one and I doubt even KKKarl can smooth talk his way out of this.

Facinating to watch Karl .. true genius .. did you get the part about gas prices/body count? How do they do that without a conspiracy? It's sort of eerily beautiful..if you know what I mean ... I mean, at least now we know what they've been up to while Bush was eating cake.

When he called her out, I wonder if he had a script? What if she bit? Wonder what that would have looked like. He was probably armed with some little factoid to nuke her with. Best to keep her powder dry. may be , dunno

She'd be a better President than Hillary I think. Not knocking Hillary, not at all. Just that Mary grew up with these red state assholes and can get along with them better.
