Why can't you Americans take care of your refugees...

What passengers told us was so uplifting and incredible and the timing couldn't have been better. We found out that Gander and the surrounding small communities, within a 75 Kilometer radius, had closed all the high schools, meeting halls, lodges, and any other large gathering places. They converted all these facilities to a mass lodging area. Some had cots set up, some had mats with sleeping bags and pillows set up. ALL the high school students HAD to volunteer taking care of the "GUESTS".

Finally Newfoundland welcomed us with open arms. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police smiled at us, the Customs people were kind, the Salvation Army took our names and fed us, and TWA Flight 819, as we had quickly come to be known, was shepherded to a herd of yellow school buses that ferried us down the main street of Gander to the Masonic Temple.

Linda Moyles turned her bedroom over to Jeannette DeCamp, a U.S. Army specialist from Florida who’d been sleeping on the floor of the United Church in her eighth month of pregnancy. Since Moyles’s husband was away, she also made room for a teenager en route to her grandfather’s funeral, plus two opera students from Germany. “Come and go as you like,” she told them. “The door’s never locked.”

What is going on down there in LA? Don't people care?

2. check this out
www.craigslist.com

Individuals are trying to open up their homes to a significant extent. Bush's goal is to end as much of the federal government as he can to reduce taxes for the wealthy and is in the process of dismantling ever program from social security to the corps of engineers and the list is endless.

His policies are coming home to roost.

)BTW thanks go to canadians for their incredible 9/11 hospitality and for making a wonderful neighbor to the north. we apologize for the crazed state of our current administration and sincerely hope that it will be repaired in the next couple of elections

3. There is a huge difference between Americans and the pos who
occassionally parks his ass in the Oval Office when he isn't playing golf or cowboy while hiding from middle-age housewives who have dead sons because of the Iraq Invasion in Crawford.

5. Sorry to you and the others who have replied
I've just been so shocked at the apparent indifference to the poor people at the Superdome, now apparently being bussed to the Astrodome in Houston.

I just see the news reports. It seemed like nobody cared.

10. Sorry Stephanie
I should not mistake the actions of the American Government for the actions of the American people.

I'm just an Canadian looking at this from the outside and completely bewildered by what I see.

6. Good questions
ignore those who are irritated with you. They would be better off to be asking the same questions of their elected leaders than criticizing you for suggesting the emperor has no clothes.

7. Rethugs don't care. The commoners are howling in outrage.
There are also a lot of grassroots efforts to help.

The entire government is AWOL.
