Does Senator Mary Landrieu really care about New Orleans ? Serious query
Edited on Thu Sep-01-05 06:46 PM by steve2470
Thanks in advance. For the record, I'm from Florida. Does that mean that I REALLY care about Florida ? No, it doesn't. Hence my question.

2. I thought she was pleading to congress recently about the
levee funding. Yes I realize she is D-lite but I thought she got in the administration's face about that.

4. Landrieu is Vichy
I would like her to see her deliver that same speech she just spewed on CNN to the people stuck in NO.

5. i posted the other day about her smiling going on
everyone else thinks they are nervous twitches. I seriously wonder about this woman and everyone for that matter. Does anyone really love their country and it's people anymore? seems like both sides of the aisle have been spitting venom at us for a while now.

7. well...
She's tried to restore some of the wetlands funding, but on the other hand, she's very cozy with the Exxon/Mobile lobby.

Her groveling to Bush in the last few days has been gross, stomach-churning, but I suppose that if she doesn't he'll screw over LA in funding.

8. She grew up in New Orleans
Edited on Thu Sep-01-05 06:33 PM by Jacobin
Her father was mayor there for years.

She lost her home there in the hurricane.

She is trying not to piss of the King because she is counting on the King to provide relief to her constituents.

When this is over, you can be sure you will hear from her....in spades

15. So
What you're saying is that she won't say anything until she gets the money to rebuild her home?

It can't be that she's too worried about her constituents, I mean she was just told that one of them was dead in the street being used
as a buffet by rodents.

With all respect I think that she will keep doing the back patting, even after this crisis is over.

16. I agree....the stroking was nauseating but
to go political RIGHT NOW would NOT help the people of N.O. Didn't you guys pick up on the CLUES she was giving about when this is over? you guys are too short-sighted, and must keep in mind what is the best for New Orleans, not for your nauseated stomachs.

If you knew you could get help for YOUR FAMILY, by not going political would you do it??? Huh? Or, would you say, fuck my family, I'm going political.

22. Agree with you Ann. I think she does care for the people in
N.O. and I think she fought for the funding for the Army Corps of Engineers and didn't get it.

It would be stupid for her to try to score political points right now.

Unfortunately, everyone's looking for targets and she's a convenient one.

19. Given the smallness of the person she is dealing with, I think you
are correct. Why piss the boy-king off right now? Any criticism will just come back to hurt the city in the future. I think there'll be lots of time to lay the blame when the immediate crisis has passed.

9. all politicians are the same in my eyes at this moment
it started with clinton covering fuckwad's ass today... this is very troubling...

simply the have & the have nots... and the haves don't really give a fuck as long as they cover each other's ass

10. I think she does
but she doesn't want to get into the blame game yet. She's trying to get through these days first. Today was the second time she's intimated that there will be a time and place for holding the right people accountable, but for now I think she's desperately trying to rally folks.

At least, I hope that's it.

13. She's a Senator
They spend a lot of time cultivating and maintaining a sense of decorum. It makes them feel civilized. I don't think she realizes her demeanor in the middle of this nightmare makes her look cold and detached.

23. Thanks. I'm sorry your town has been devastated.
Pardon my cynicism about politicians in general. I was expecting her to lay into Bush, but I guess if she does that, it might backfire on her. It sounds like she does care about NOLA. :-)

I see where you're going with this: So why isn't she raising hell about this bungled "relief" effort??
