How can we be the same country that orchestrated the Berlin Airlift?
and here the "greatest nation on earth" seems to have its thumb up its ass when it comes to feeding and evacuating its own citizenz?

I am tired of excuses.

These people are our brothers and sisters.

While I encourage people to donate money, WE PAY TAXES FOR FEMA AND THE FEDS TO DO SOMETHING IN TIMES LIKE THIS....which is why I called my senator pRicky Santorum to tell him I think he is a king size douchebag for worrying about repealing the "death tax" when people are dying....how the hell is that "pro-life"

7. The sad fact is it's not the same country
Starting with Reagan we've been subjected to a quarter century of having our society destroyed.

9. I just suggested that Air National Guard c-130's could fly to Baton Rouge
or small airstrips, even emergency airstrips, throughout the region...That is we could if they weren't in Bosnia, Iraq, or Afganistan.

Is the US Safer today than before 911? N.O.!

10. That's been my question
If we could do that operation, surely we can handle New Orleans. I keep thinking of things like the Airlift, and the British fishermen, merchantmen etc that rescued the soldiers at Dunkirk. It is appalling that we can't manage that kind of spirit to save the people of one of our own cities.

flown in winter time under adverse conditions, too.

13. Lasted from June 1948 until September 1949! We fed them for over a year!
and you are correct they flew planes in horrid conditions on very short runways if I recall.

"In June 1948, the Soviet Union attempted to control all of Berlin by cutting surface traffic to and from the city of West Berlin. Starving out the population and cutting off their business was their method of gaining control. The Truman administration reacted with a continual daily airlift which brought much needed food and supplies into the city of West Berlin. This Airbridge to Berlin lasted until the end of September of 1949---although on May 12, 1949, the Soviet government yielded and lifted the blockade."

12. That whole generation is long gone...
You know them. Selfless sacrifice. "Do the right thing". Politicians and public servants who put their people first, every time.

You might even read about them in history books.

21. But their children...
their nieces, nephews and grandchildren are not gone yet, though we are close to the departure gate. We still take the 'measure of the man' the same way. Honor in a word or a handshake. Understanding what the 'greater social good' actually means.

It's the 30-40 somethings who need to take the hand-off and run the next mile. It's a winnable race.

14. That was the Old Army. Now our guys can't cook for themselves.
We spent 5 Billion to have Iraq catered. An Army marches on it's stomach and the the multinational Corporation providing for those stomachs has a division that is also providing for our enemy in Iran. Sooooo. Great Shades of Prescott Bush!

19. We aren't the same country that did that. We had Harry Truman
then and I think if we had Howard Dean as President now, you would have seen much of the same type of executive management of our country for the benefit of all of us and for the least of us.
