4. Because that's socialism
RW mantra, personal responsibility, blah, blah blah.
<sarcasm off>
Those in power are out of touch with most of this country. The only time they are aware of US is when something happens to them or their property. It is only then that they gain some common insight.

5. Because most of our country's wealth is held by a few...
For the most part, they also happen to be extremely greedy.

6. I welcome charity from others to lessen the grief
here. But this admin apparently thinks it's useless because they're doing such a fine job of keeping everything under control. :sarcasm:

7. Because the rest of the world knows...
...that the rich and the right-wingers will do as little as possible to look after our poorest citizens, who are most devastated by these events.

8. Because the wealth is concentrated in the hands of a minority
of ultra-wealthy Americans and a lot of those folks frankly don't care about the poor and desperate victims of this hurricane. And our national treasury has been squandered on the military and on wars.

10. pretty humbling
but I do think we are all here to help each other and it's a damn fine way to make friends. Friends look out for each other when times are tough.

11. I don't care if it's charity...but it's not money I'm so pissed about...
...I'm pissed that Bush has turned down offers of practical assistance, Flood experts, medical staff, rescue workers, etc.

With so much of the NG and other Armed Forces deployed overseas, we can use all of the first responders and hands-on experts we can get!

16. No shit.........
when I read that he TURNED DOWN all offers of assistance I nearly burst a blood vessel. He only wants the "cash money", and guess who's pockets THAT would end up in?

12. Because
People are basically good. The idiot that "had" to cut his vacation is a moron. The other nations feel sorry for us.

13. Because the RW paradigm
...gives no quarter to the public good, and that includes infrastructure like levies. They don't understand such things. They feel profit is king and any spending on the masses is evil.
This is why *'s first response was for money donations and private enterprise support. They have no understanding of the greater good and top-down, get-it-done action that would have helped NOLA days ago.

15. Because our government doesn't give a flying fuck
about our own people. Let this be a the mother of all warnings to all Americans. You are on your own from here on out.

17. Is there a problem with neighbors helping each other?
Some countries are better at things than we are. Some have supplies ready to go.

Of course it is sad - the sad state of affairs FEMA is in - but that doesn't mean countries shouldn't help each other.
