10. I think this crisis will profoundly affect millions, not just the victims.

I think the level of chaos and human suffering will have a major impact on reporters, politicians, and others. I hope it will have the effect of waking people up to the unbelievable poverty millions in the US face daily. The tragedy could have been mitigated greatly had so many people not been living in total poverty to start with.

I'm having strong feelings, myself, that it's time to get serious about corporations that are sending jobs overseas. Perhaps that sounds like a leap in thinking tonight, but it's time address poverty and joblessness in the nation, and I started this week by cancelling accounts with companies that I know have outsourced jobs to India and the like. And, I made my reasons known. Why are we not offering work to all Americans? Why are the CEOs and stockholders getting rich on the backs of our children? Why, if we are such a kick-ass country as some want us to believe, are we allowing generations to grow up with nothing to work toward? This is at the heart of many of the heartwrenching stituations of Katrina's aftermath. Poverty.
