From another board (link below):
"so who profits from a tragedy like this? greedy commodities speculators like me. we bought when we saw the disaster coming, and we got out as soon as there is was a big price jump. we didn't stick around to wait to hear that the government would act responsibly by tapping the Strategic Petroleum Reserve -- we got out when the price was high and the panic and fear were at their worst. and we got more than your two cents.
i made nearly a million dollars in the past week on a $200,000 investment. the government will take half of it in taxes, and use the money to support the emergency management efforts that are already underway. in the big scheme of things, you need to look at the rise in your gas prices as a tax that is being levied to help fund disaster relief. sure you may not like it, but if you were to follow through with your Boston Tea party fantasy, we would have a minimalist goverment that would be incapable of stepping-up to provide disaster relief at at time when it is needed most."

http://www.firebottle.com/fireforum/fireBB.cgi?cfg=misc&forum=open&enter=go. It's from the thread called 'Don't buy gas on Sept. 1st'. There's some real assholes at this musical electronics site. Most have gradually seen the light over the last couple of year and are now liberals ... thankfully.
