I can't stop crying. I'm a skinny white woman. This is racism. No doubt
about it. The sweet people of New Orleans have made that wonderful City what it is because of their soul and spirit. And they are being left to die. I can't take this. Its worse than Iraq!

1. It makes me want to puke.
But I've been saying for some time that we are being governed by elites ...and poor people voted for these bastards.

6. I had so much hope with Cindy. And now this GODAWFUL criminality...
I lived in NOLA for a year; worked at Tulane medical Center and Charity. I love the city and the people. I am sick with sadness and rage. How can we impeach this freak of nature? He is not human. bush.

4. this is what absolutely amazes me....
NO is not worse than Iraq-- the suffering in NO is barely even comparable to what this country has done to the people of Iraq, and intentionally, rather than by neglect. When was the last time you saw DU at level 3 because children were dying of thirst, or water-borne disease, or simple bloody murder, in Iraq? Yet they die every day, and have for nearly 15 years. How can anyone compare NO to that?

8. You see, Iraq is there and here is us and many never expected it of us
just of them. It is a very commonly held human condition that "we" are better than "them", from sports to politics to everything. I agree that it is not as bad as Iraq, it appalls me all the same because I didn't want to be right in predicting this and wanted to be wrong that we were better and we're not.

10. I apologize for perhaps overstating the issues...this is the US, though.
1,000 PLUS died yesterday in Iraq because of a panic attack that would not have existed had not the US enforced 'freedom' down the Iraqis throats, so they could profit by war and by oil. The country of Iraq was MUCH better off than before we invaded it. I say, bring SH back. Take him out of prison. He's no better or worse than B* murderers. Because of the war, we now have an entire city evacuated. These people would not be suffering if we had not invaded Iraq. And the poor in this country are like the hundreds of thousands that have died in the Iraqis War. They don't count.

20. I don't think that you overstated this at all...in fact
I've been thinking very similar thoughts myself.

Iraq is and has been suffering due to the actions of the US. we are now getting a closer and heartbreaking look at what this human suffering entails. Its horrible.....I am so sad for the world's suffering ...caused in a large part (if not totally) by our greedy corporate gov't.

We watch helplessly as people are starving and dying.....surreal.....

22. Thanks Desertrose! (love your name) After 9/11, we were hurt and
horrified, and B* took advantage of our emotions, and we went to war on his lies with the wrong country! He doesn't care, he just pretends to, like he pretends to be Christian. The MSM became dispassionate, because they knew they were either lying by commission or omission, in support of this immoral and illegal war. And now, we again have a real problem on our own soil, and I think the media is awakening to their grief. Jeanne Meserve was one of the first to crack, Cafferty (whom I have grown to despise) and Anderson Cooper. Some even have said Scarborough tonight. Maybe, just maybe, we will begin to love and trust again in this country, and then and only then will it be reflected in our actions with those in other countries. God, what Century is this anyway?

5. It IS racism. Anyone who says otherwise is clearly not thinking straight.
If this were FLORIDA (where rich ass brother Jeb is "in control") this would already be resolving itself.

If this were Beverly Hills, the celebs & rich folk would have been relocated by the following morning.

If this were The Hampton's, this wouldn't be happening.

Does anyone truly believe that this would really be happening anywhere else but somewhere with the N.O. demographics?!?!?!?

15. Absolutely! I agree with you. NOLA is very poor and very rich. But the
true wealth of the city is not in the money! Its in the lovely people. And the best of the city are stranded! It's a European City...you don't need a car as much as in some cities. And if you live paycheck to paycheck, why buy a car. I can't stop crying here.

7. Hello there
I'm a skinny black woman and yes this is racism. I understand the frustration your feeling. Black or white there is one thing most liberals have in common, compassion.

I wish there was a way we could bottle that compassion up and force feed it to the freepers of the world.

This is just so blatant even Joe Scarborough is upset. This is a total tradegy right before our very eyes and no one can tell me it's not because those are poor black people who the conservative right-wing wants off of Medicare. We should all feel shame; I know I do.

23. Hi spenbax...maybe I shouldn't have said 'skinny white woman' but my
N'Awlins friends referred to me as that in jest. Think it was a rap song? I feel tremendous shame at the obvious racism. Just think about all of the hours of wasted time spent on that white woman (SINGULAR) lost in Aruba? We don't talk about the body bags and body count and flag draped coffins in Iraq. We talk about a single White woman. And now, the body bags of our own are being reported on because THIS ELEPHANT CAN'T AND WON'T BE IGNORED. So what is done? Martial law, and exportation of the 'refugees!!!'

19. Hi tamtam...the reason I wrote 'skinny white woman' is because some
of my black friends called me that in jest when I lived in NO in 1994! I think it was a rap song?! LOL! I wish we could bottle up compassion too. It is the highest human emotion, and what separates us from freepers and other animals! I know the true Christians and lovers of God and the Universe are compassionate.

I wish I could do something. Even bottled compassion! Enough tears to start the process!!

But in this case I think you are right. I have to think that if these dying people were rich white people there'd be a lot more interest from the federal government. That's really damn sad. And I am ashamed of my country and my government. I'm really, really sorry...

said this just stinks to high heaven and he finds it really telling who the government will move their asses for and who they won't. He said "look at those people--black and poor. There's your answer right there."

My jaw hit the floor. He NEVER says things like that.

18. I am a human of indeterminate size and gender...and I am
ashamed of the "so-called" leadership of this country - whatever their politics. Our own people needed us, and we chose not to act, and we blamed the disaster that befell them on their "choices", not on our un-willingness to rescue those of limited resources, as the clock continues to tick.

28. I have cursed at the TV more than at the bogus election...I have cried
like 9/11, (not quite like 9/11, because there was truly nothing else to do) but WE CAN AND SHOULD BE DOING SOMETHING! And we aren't! Their property now will become the domain of the states. Thanks to the new law. I swear to God, I think all of this was planned. How appropriate that the city has 25% of the US's oil production.

30. I have believed since last night as I was listening to the LSP scan
that this is a deliberate action by our government. Our government is consiously working to create a living hell for these people, they are making up stories about looters criminals with bands of guns roaming the streets and creating fear so real people that are there to help are terrified to help these people. Listening last night to the state police, they were ready to roll the buses every attemt they made to get them moving, someone held them back.

this isn't a tragedy occuring because of incompetence. It's beyond incompetence. This is deliberate genocide by our federal government. If they are allowed to get away with this.. I fear the worst for the rest of us. I really hope I'm wrong.

29. I will Pallas and thanks for the links. You know, I think you might be
right about this, although the ramifications of it are almost too horrifying to conceive.

"SOME SAY THE FEDS WANT THEM TO RIOT SO THAT THE BLACKS'LL LOOK BAD."

Why did they wait so long to send aid? Why did they not seem to know what would happen if you deprive people of food and water and decent living conditions? They would rebel, loot and riot? And what next? Martial law and deportation! And who gets their property with the new laws regarding eminent(sp) domain? You don't have a job, you're not allowed to return home, you're EXPORTED AS REFUGEES, you lose your property. And NOLA is rich in part because of location (Gulf, Mississippi mouth) and oil (25% of US production). B*/Cheney want this power. They get the land. We know what they think of human life. It is worth not much unless you're a fetus or a brain dead Schiavo or rich enough to contribute to the bfee.

I swear to God it looks like MIHOP to me.

31. And don't forget it's a convenient way to get them off food stamps,
Medicare, and whatever other government help they were getting. Don't forget the neocons agenda; to do away with everything FDR put into place for the poor, sick and downtrodden. We are seeing just how evil this administration is. Condi is still on vacation, Cheney is still on vacation; who the Hell do these people think they work for? They think they own it all and they work for themselves. They really do not care what we think of them because it just doesn't matter.
