Why do you think the silence from the Democrats (with the exception of the occasional vaguely fart-like peeping noise from Harry Reid) has been so deafening?
Why do you think Mary (Obey The Will Of) Landrieu was on Anderson Cooper, lavishly applying smoochy little love bites to George W. Chimp's incompetent simian ass for the "great job" he's been doing on hurricane relief?
Why do you think the only people making noise even on the fringes of the Democratic "establishment" are Howard Dean, cancelling events and appearances out of respect for New Orleans, and Al Sharpton, kicking ass and taking names on Olbermann?
Because the Democratic Party CANNOT LEAD. It is a party of cowardly little time-servers waiting for US to show them what needs to be done and how to do it. It's waiting for leadership, and that leadership is us.
That leadership is the thousands and thousands of DUers and others from left, right and center who've swamped the White House switchboard and Michael Jerkoff's office at DHS with well and truly pissed-off calls. That leadership is standing in ditches outside of Waco and cutting no slack for AWOL leadership. That leadership is coming from the NOLA cops, tired of bullshit and bad leadership and telling the powers that be that they had better start doing things right, and in a big fat hurry. That leadership is lots and lots of people like you and me and lots of people we've never met making contributions they can't afford to the Red Cross, and dumping loads of ice into coolers and clothing into garbage bags and driving south. That leadership is shown by thousands and thousands of calls and letters pouring into television stations across the country, telling the talking heads and telling the world that we have had enough.
And maybe, eventually, after the requisite number of toes have been dippped into the political waters, the Democratic establishment may be persuaded to come out and "lead" us once more.
But I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you.
