2. Ohh, I have been anguishing over the pets left behind...

that story on the people waiting for days on the overpass, only to be told they had to leave their beloved dogs behind--who had struggled to survive as much as their owners. God, this just broke my heart....I think I would have had to stay behind, frankly.

The human suffering is tremendous and I know people are giving generously to the Red Cross and other relief organizations. I just hope that many will find it in their hearts and wallets to spare something for the animal welfare groups who are working tirelessly to try and rescue the thousands of animals left behind. Please donate if you can to the Humane Society, ASPCA, Noah's Wish or one of the other groups.
