Bad behavior isn’t restricted to poor black people
I live in Mobile county and was watching the local news tonight because Katrina took our satellite dish and, well, that’s all we can get right now -local news.

One of the stories Channel 15 did tonight was about this very affluent community across the bay called Daphne Alabama. Daphne had this center in the middle of town where evacuees from Louisiana and Mississippi were being housed. The wealthy citizens there complained about the refugees presence because they “looked scruffy”. Some Daphne citizens solicited other people in the community to pressure authorities to move the refugees somewhere else. They were quickly moved to another town, which was a little less wealthy and affluent. Then more compassionate Daphne citizens held a protest with signs against the moving of the refugees which were mostly women and children. The refugees were in tears and distraught at the prospect of being bussed yet again to another location after the trauma they‘d suffered. Women and children in tears, it was very disheartening.

On this news article the reporter contacted the police to see if the refugees had caused any reported trouble, and there had been no reports of any wrongdoing or anything for that matter.

I thought it was so outrageous, people, wealthy or not, would act that way. I'm so disgusted.

1. When NIMBY-ism becomes a life or death issue
Hate to ask it, but did racism play a part in the decision of the affluent to put these folks back on the bus out of town?

4. I really cant say but

These refugees were poor black people and the folks who organized to have them moved were rich white people. I suspect race was part of it but that's just my opinion.

2. Now how Christian is that?
Why bother having all these churches in the south talking about JAY-SUS if they never bothered to read the sermon on the mound?

3. "looked scruffy"
Wonder if the wealthy once even considered helping these folks get clean clothes and baths?

8. That is OUTRAGEOUS!
I think it's time for a little eminent domain action! SEIZE the McMansions for the public good, to house several displaced families.

10. One report was about people stranded on rooftops...
They'd been hotel guests (white...a couple from Scotland). When it came time to evacuate, people (also white) packed all their luggage into their SUVs, ignoring those who begged for a ride. "Sorry...no room for you AND my luggage".

I'd call that bad behavior.

11. I saw that on the news
Obviously people can be act very badly whatever color they are. Sometimes it's a class thing also. It's just human nature and these awful conditions brings the best AND the worst out in everybody.

Like New Orleans has 100's of thousands of poor blacks and only a relatively few have looted and pillaged. Most just want to get somewhere where they can find family members, eat, bathe and sleep. It's the same on the other side. Just a relative few whites wouldn’t want blacks living close by.

12. American Skin (41 shots)
American Skin (41 shots) Bruce Springsteen.
41 shots
41 shots
41 shots
41 shots
41 shots
41 shots
41 shots
41 shots....
and we'll take that ride
'cross this bloody river
to the other side
41 shots... cut through the night
You're kneeling over his body in the vestibule
Praying for his life

Is it a gun, is it a knife
Is it a wallet, this is your life
It ain't no secret
It ain't no secret
No secret my friend
You can get killed just for living
In your American skin

41 shots
Lena gets her son ready for school
She says "on these streets, Charles
You've got to understand the rules
If an officer stops you
Promise you'll always be polite,
that you'll never ever run away
Promise Mama you'll keep your hands in sight"

Is it a gun, is it a knife
Is it a wallet, this is your life
It ain't no secret
It ain't no secret
No secret my friend
You can get killed just for living
In your American skin

Is it a gun, is it a knife
Is it in your heart, is it in your eyes
It ain't no secret

41 shots... and we'll take that ride
'Cross this bloody river
To the other side
41 shots... got my boots caked in this mud
We're baptized in these waters and in each other's blood

Is it a gun, is it a knife
Is it a wallet, this is your life
It ain't no secret
It ain't no secret
No secret my friend
You can get killed just for living
In your American skin

13. Bad behaviour apparently isn't even restricted to people
away from these boards. :eyes:

Terrible that they would say such things, isn't it? More concerned about the way people look than the situation they are in.
