Selfish question.,
As a self employed carpenter, I remember how much lumber and plywood prices went up (almost doubled in some cases and never came down) at places like Home Despot(sic) after * invaded Iraq, What is this tragedy going to do to home improvement prices? Gas is already killing me. I'm scared. You can only pass on so much cost to a client before your bid is rejected.

1. It will probably get ugly for a while
No question there. Your customers will be feeling the pain of the gas prices too, and won't be looking for higher prices due to high cost of materials. I wish you luck.

2. Your fears are probably well-founded - we're all going to get nailed.
And especially people in your line of work. Food will go up - everything and anything's price will be raised...anything that must be transported by truck or plane (so, everything).

These gas prices are devastating most households. We haven't even really seen it start hitting us in other places like lumber, food, etc. It's really very scary, I know.

6. Worrying about the loss of your livelihood is selfish?
Am I the only one who's baffled by every third post on this board tonight?

This is this person's livelihood.

10. Not selfish, realism.
While he hasn't suffered directly, it doesn't mean he shouldn't worry about his self and his family's needs. Most people can be understanding of others, as well as themselves.

11. Um, I've been streaming from NOLA every spare minute since Sunday
I used to live in NOLA, I've got friends there. I haven't heard from anyone...I'm hanging by a thread here financially. Give me a freaking break! It's an honest question. One that applies to more than just me.

13. Just because he posted this doesn't mean he doesn't care about
the folks who are dying in NO. There could be a lot of fallout from this disaster which will eventually affect us all.

4. I had a company (very small and very cool) that worked for
me prior to last year's hurricane season in FL. They moved to FL because that's where the work was.
Whatever you do, be fair and honest; there will be more than enough work. Just give them a fair price and you will be fine.

5. Well Canada has plenty
of soft-wood lumber, and it would keep your prices down...cough.

8. Regime change. The small business person isn't given
the means to thrive by our government and yet it's you people who are the backbone of the real America.

12. Yep, prepare to take a major hit in your income
And you can thank jr for that, because he will drive up building supplies costs even more by giving no bid contracts out.
