I grew up on the Mississippi Coast. They had hurricanes wipe out everything every twenty years or so. Each time the coastline would change, and half the city would wash out to sea. People said they had to live with it or move. Instead, they built a 26 mile long seawall, filled sand along it to form a beach, and made it into a tourist attraction.
New Orleans will be back. They may need to find creative solutions to their unique problems. But that's just part of the fun. They'll get a few engineers to sit down in Pat O'Briens, gulp down a few hurricanes, let the jazz carry their minds away, and BAM! A solution will come to them.
New Orleans has been here since before there was an America, and frankly, even in its current state, I think it will be here long after America is gone. Which may not be very long, if we don't stop electing Texans. (I live in Texas, I can say that.)
