37. I have to bring my daughter to college tomorrow
and I'm so grateful to have something normal to do. Tonight, on a ride, I was overwhelmed to see that we had dry roads to drive on and were able to drink cold, clean water when we got home. I worked for emergency services and I can't imagine how things could have gone so wrong. FEMA at that time would not give us funding if our emergency plans were not up to date and workable. Our plans were such that we almost needed not be around cuz everyone from the chief of police to the bus driver to the little hardware store and snowmobile driver knew what to do. I guess what I'm getting at and trying to avoid thinking is that I think this administration is purposely allowing this to happen. I think they are. And why they would do it is too scary to even think about.

38. I dont want my kids to be nervous wrecks
and I dont want them to see this stuff too much on T.V, but I have to turn it on when I get home from work. I need to know whats happening....it's like I have to be connected to these people and all of the events since 9/11 or I feel guilty. I dont want to be oblivious to whats happening in our country like I was before. I tell the kids to go play outside or do their homework upstairs and watch a cartoon or something. I feel so guilty.

It it not the time for a lighthearted thread like Nighthawks.

I am too wound up to sleep.

I have a whole room full of houseplants. I did not start out wanting a room full of houseplants. They grew and took over after several years.

I was watering the plants earlier. It made me think about all the people in NO and Mississippi without water. Of course I don't want my plants to die, but I thought about it with each plant I watered. I have been thinking about it for hours.

Edited on Fri Sep-02-05 03:28 AM by Prodemsouth
night. It was his daughter's birthday- he was inviting me over, but I was really too ill to go. I plan to tell him why tommorrow when I take by her gift. My sister and Mom got in to a short spat on Tuesday- Mom said she was finally glad to see the Monkey (she calls him that now too) going back to Washington instead of riding his bicycle. Sister is devout pro monkey Mormon. She had a friend in Slidell and was looking for her family's number who still live in Brunswick/Saint Simons Georgia Area, where we all grew up. (I am sure they are ok, sister's friend is a Brit, Husband is smart and well to do)
This will divide families- like 2000 election. Thanksgiving will be divided into pro Monkey/anti Monkey camps.

Actually, I feel like I'm going to lose my lunch... My stomache is in a knot, and honest to God, the only other time I remember this feeling was when I was at a funeral for my cousin...

I hate George Fucking Bush with every fiber of my being. I believe if he had not of gotten us into this war in Iraq then this situation would be under control in NO, and people not dying as much. The LA guard would have been home and available the first day to secure the city and assist people. Furthermore, if this monster would not of been president then he wouldn't have been able to decimate environmental laws and FEMA and decimate funding for public works projects, and then maybe the levees wouldn't have broken because the wetlands would have absorbed some of the surge.

The man is a hideous monster. I do hate him. I know that hate can gnaw at the person who hates, but its how I feel. I can't help hating a monster of such evil. In fact, I think the people who DON'T hate him are the ones with the problem. My utter contempt for him and his band of NeoCons are the driving force behind my wanting to help my country get back on its feet and recover from this radical right-wing sickness.

I just read about a grandma who was dead in her wheelchair in the convention center, just pushed to one side with a small blanket over her. I can't stop crying at the contemptible bastards who won't even help a poor dying grandma. There has to be a way to make these people pay for what they have done. There has GOT to be a way.

40. Me..... I've barely slept since Sunday....
I'm working hard at not getting too cranky/weepy at work, but my eyes are so damned red from eyestrain/lack of sleep it is very telling.

Even I didn't believe Bush* would do so much damage in such a short amount of time, since he stole the first election in 2000. I am just devastated at what has become of our country. That we would allow old people, sick people, babies, poor people, and the rest of those so incredibly vulnerabhle to drown or die from thirst in front of our friggin eyes! I keep thinking of the little black man, Hardy, whose devastating story of having lost his grip on his wife when the roof broke open and the water came washing through. "You lost your wife? said the incredulous reporter: "where are you going now?" I'm lost. I have nothing was the reply.

This poor little man wasn't in New Orleans, but his video story that was repeatedly played on multiple networks, should have had the same wrenching effect on anyone with a heart. So how can it be that so many that surely saw this as I did, are adopting such callous attitudes, blaming the victims, turning away?

With every failed call I got more pissed thinking about * drinking in the Whitehouse while people are dying in New Orleans for want of a swallow of water.

They say he is going to show his face in Louisiana later today. Well, all I can say is that they better screen his audience for supporters as usual, because I think there are a lot of citizens that would just as soon string him up like Mussolini, as listen to anything the bastard has to say.

Edited on Fri Sep-02-05 03:52 AM by Dem2theMax
people stuck in NO and elsewhere, sleep is something that isn't happening.

Edited to add: And I eat and I feel guilty that I have food and they don't. I drink water and feel horrible that I can't give it to a thirsty baby. I have a roof over my head. They have no homes. My car is old, but it's not floating down a river somewhere. I know where my family is. Many of them don't know where their loved ones are, let alone if they are alive.

We are the richest country in the world and people are starving, dying from thirst, begging for help and no one is coming.

No, I don't think I'll sleep peacefully for a long time to come.

And the only thing that will truly give me peace now is seeing * in the Hague, along with his entire administration.
And once that is done, I pray they spend an eternity in hell.
Now I'm passed pissed and back to rage again.

because I am so grateful for my life right now, for all of my blessings, but I don't know how much more I can take. I didn't think I would see these things in America. I cry everytime I see these poor people begging for help, dying, and these babies and elderly near death. I rage. I am angry. I am sad. I am completely destroyed. Bush is not doing anything. He was playing golf while people were dying. When will everyone wake up and see him for who he really is-THE DEVIL IN FLESH? I am scared those affected by this hurricane will never recover. I am scared this is the beginning of the end.

66. breaking point
I havent slept more than a couple of hrs a night for the last 5 days.I live in Az and knowing bush was here in phoenix at a b'day party for Mccain and then when to Coronado Island to one of the most famous hotels in the country and was doing photo ops with a guitar that someone gave him while people were hanging onto roof tops trying to live thru the night made me sick to my stomach.I have hated the bush family since he was governor of texas and his butch mother was
the queen of all cold hearted bitches. The repukes have had this planned for 20 yrs getting him into the white house. It started with The first bush and James baker and the oil guys in texas and then the carlye group got him on board along with his buddies the saudi's and then they got the christian coalition behind them and his plan was is place. He is pure evil and has to be stopped before him and his buddies destroy this planet.Wake up america before new orleans happens to you.Look on here about the camps that are in place to house the prisoners all over this country.

Edited on Fri Sep-02-05 03:58 AM by Born_A_Truman
I am fuming!

My oldest daughter called me tonight (she's leaving for an NA convention in Hawaii early tomorrow) to tell me she signed up on Moveon.org to offer a single mother a place to live to get on her feet. She lives in Los Angeles (the Valley) and told me, 'Mom, I'll even fly to Houston and bring her back here. I just can't take any more of this without doing something to help.' I am a proud mother right now.

ETA: Not fuming over my daughter's call. Fuming because of the way this incompetent POS and his greedy pals have handled (or NOT) this disaster.

65. Absolutely.
Even though I'm a low poster, I figured I'll start writing up an article for DU. I hope my meager writing skills are enough to make it look professional. lol.

67. I'm not feeling pissed. I'm feeling similar to what I felt after 9/11
and that was a complicated mix.

But I can't sleep yet.

I have a house guest and have a lot of work to do tomorrow that should have been done over the past three days...

I'm going to have to stop the 16 hour news/internet vigils soon, but I can't stop imagining all the stories about people we don't hear or read that are being repeated many thousands of times over.

The drownings, the bruised and battered dying together. The sorrow of knowing someone is dead and the terrible, apprehensive fear that gnarls you up when you don't know if someone is dead or alive. The fear parents feel for their children when they don't know what's coming next. Watching a baby die.

I know these things have always happened in the world and will continue, but we had created this society to reduce so much of the sorrow that plagues mankind, so much so that people from all over the world came to start new lives here.

Now we have people who have taken charge and brutal control of our nation who welcome the sorrow, invite it in, see it as a useful tool and a source of wealth.

And they openly display their disregard for us. It has been revealed more with each passing month over the years, and in many hundreds of ways. The callous statements, the bizarre photos such as that of Bush strumming a new guitar as a killer approaches our nation's shore.

How could it be any more clear? The administrations contempt for us is final and complete.

All of these last few days, I keep imagining people stuck in an attic, and with each passing moment how many become just too weakened to stay with us?

74. You've read my mind.
A lot of images make an appearance these days.

I imagine my own family, how would I feel? I imagine the people whose father's were in the hospital who lay dying when it happened, and did those people decide to stay? Were some of those people the people who have been shown contempt for remaining? was it that wretched Mr. Brown who scorned those who stayed behind?

And I think of those whose father's had died, had a funeral to attend on the next morning and instead found themselves trying to break through a roof to save their family.

awhile and I don't think I've ever told you how much I love your name.

I love it lots. It makes me smile :-) Even if it does conjure up Ari the prevaricator's nasty bald head!

75. Listen to the mayor of New Orleans while you are not sleeping.
http://rapidshare.de/

If that is not the exact location, look for a thread with the title "Mayor of New Orleans Cursing Bush" or "Government Has Left Us to Die" or something similar.

It is 12 or 13MB, and it is taking forever to download on dial up, but I'm told it is worth the wait.

That's the DU link that will lead you to the download.

83. I slept off and on about 3 hours last night...
Tonight/tomorrow, now...promises to be even worse. I can not comprehend how this tragedy can be happening here, in what was once America. I have talked today...yesterday, now...to two friends who had kept their heads buried in the sand, not wanting to hear my political views, saying that they couldn't absorb it, they didn't want to, it was too hard, blah, blah, blah.

Today, they are apologizing. They are amazed...I was RIGHT! I was not being melodramatic, or overly emotional these past few years. Their eyes are opening, hallelujah, but after the past election/theft, it's too late. Wringing their hands, and saying "OhmyGod...I thought you were just overly political, but hey, you were RIGHT! What do we do now?"

Like most of my fellow DUers, this is an incredibly hard time for me. Playing the role of Cassandra is not fun. I am worn down, frazzled, and just plain disgusted. I will try to get some sleep now, tomorrow is another day, and another battle in this war. If this does not sweep the neocons out of power, nothing will.

85. best I can do is grab an hour here or there . . .
I've run out of words to describe what I feel . . . it's beyond despair, beyond disgust, beyond incomprehension . . . I can't stop thinking about all those people -- MY brothers and sisters and children -- at the Convention Center, in attics, at the SuperDome, and God knows where else . . . one the one hand, my heart is absolutely breaking . . . on the other, I've never been more furious . . .

When California experiences the big one? California's refinery's go down in conjunction with the Gulf Coast? When the gulf coast gets hit again because hurricane season is not over. If this happens when we are still trying to clean up NOLA it is obvious that FEMA and curious chicken george can't walk and chew gum at the same time.
