What possible motive could anyone have
For delaying rescue, food, water, etc.

This is for all the conspiracy thinkers.

2. Well in the beginning, before Katrina hit.
conspiracy theorists were on the idea of this to be used to kill off black democrats in the NO area. They were shot down at the time, but eventually (and sadly) they were proven to be right.

3. And your point is?
I am more concerned that they were not motivated to act faster.

Wanna know what possible motive they had for not using federal help to evacuate? They either didn't care or were asleep at the wheel.

BTW..what was the point of this thread?

to do work in NOLA. There is a thread about. My guess is that they wanted to privitize this, in other words give the awards to their buddies.

19. I agree with you. They are pushing for martial law
Repost from another board

They are building the case of urban violence and civil unrest and it'll be a prophecy which will soon become reality if they keep feeding the information.

Somehow I think that Bush wants riots and use the same tactics on the US which they have perfected in Iraq over the last couple of years.

I got the impression from reading DU that the people are ready to storm the Bastille. We have seen much outrage against the Bush administration, but the last couple of days are even more extreme, the people have had enough.

Let's throw in my favorite quote (used a number of times before)

The Third Option is not to have peace in the world, and not to have a full-scale world war. Instead, they wanted to cause worldwide instability, chaos and civil unrest in order to manipulate and control people and governments, including the United States; thus the creation of the domestic terrorist threat.

Gene Wheaton, "CIA: The Companies They Keep," Portland Free Press, July- October, 1996.

And the domestic threat is born again and even more effectively than during 9/11

Frontpage of http://www.nola.com/ right now:

That's a picture of martial law. Not a picture of people being rescued, but of a police state.

...

At a press conference Thursday night, she said that 300 soldiers from the Arkansas National Guard arrived in New Orleans fresh from Iraq and are under orders to restore order from the “hoodlums.’’

She said of the soldiers: “They have M-16s and they are locked and loaded. These troops know how to shoot to kill . . . and I expect they will.’’

11. And it makes perfect sense that they would send the refugees to Texas
where the Republicans are so dominant that several thousand new Democrats in the state would not be a threat (Houston usually votes Dem).

It would be just as close to send them to Florida, but that might tip the balance.

If I were into conspiracy theories.

As Toxic Waters Rise, Desperation and Fear Grow
'It's like a war zone here. There was shooting and looting'
by Julian Borger

Chaos spread across New Orleans along with the brown, toxic floodwater in the early hours of yesterday morning, and the thousands of stragglers still trapped awoke to find themselves in a city with few laws, little mercy, and no clear way out.
The police seemed to have all but evaporated in the course of a night of looting and gunfire, in which at least one police officer was badly injured. A few camouflaged national guard trucks could be seen moving through the downtown area in convoy, but there were no guardsmen on the streets to deal with the wreckage of the city.

http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2005-09-01-cover-hurricane_x.htm

"Once we get 3,000 (more) National Guardsmen here, we're locking this place down," Nagin said. "My opinion of the looting is it started with people running out of food, and you can't really argue with that too much. Then it escalated to this kind of mass chaos where people are taking electronic stuff and all that."

21. Prove Republicanism works
I keep saying it, it's to prove churches and the "private sector" can respond to crises and that we don't need the government and that the government can't do it anyway. Nothing else makes any sense, and no I don't think anybody is intentionally killing black people, although that's what is happening and I'm sure the Bushies see them as expendable for the "greater good" of spreading Republicanism around the globe. Hate these motherfuckers.

23. This is a hard one...I think Incompetence + LOW PRIORITY
Bush* has adopted such a punitive attitude towards anyone who disagrees with him. LA has a DEM governor, one Dem Senator, and these are African Americans, who surely have never supported him or his ilck in the RETHUG party....so he surely is not going to bust butt for them...

So, it doesn't have to be a conspiracy at all. Just an obvious lessening of priority (compared to his response to Jebbie's hurrican episodes)leading to a delayed response which was incompetent to begin with.

26. He needed a few days of looters on the TV so he could "reconnect
to his base and reinforce some of their fears".

Or "he wanted to federal government to not be the "brand" of any sort of delivery of help - he is trying to bankrupt and wean Americans off the federal government. Instead he wanted christians and corporations to pick up all the publicity & goodwill and didn't want federal assistance to compete."

Or " he needed to keep the story in the news for a full week to break the Cindy Story - and he was afraid the crisis would last only a few days"

Or " He needed scapegoats for all the anger Americans feel towards him & his ilk - and those poor looters & huddled masses in the stadium were great - nobody knows who they are - they could be hard to defend for not heeding orders. So they would make the perfect outlet for all the stuff about their own dam administration they don't want to accept. Everyone's anger could be focused on the looters and if there was the odd murder thrown it - ducky!"

Who knows. One thing for sure - the WH & the Pentagon know full well the escalating cycle of violence that lawlessness begets when there is not law in place. They acted like a giant vacuum (the scientific kinds where there is no air) and then things unroll as they may.

27. Turn it around: what motive could BushCo have for spending money
on non-essentials like saving lives? There are plenty more n*gg*rs and poor Whites where these came from--saving them is just a drain on funds that could be going into the pockets of the wealthy.

Since repubs starting with Raygun love that sort of thing. Get rid of the Fed Gov and privatize everything, plus Jr. still had some campaign donors to pay back ala Blackwater Security.

35. Some of these theories seem to have merit, but...
...If this is anything more sinister than pure incompetence, then BushCo has hugely miscalculated. There are thousands dead, and there will be a congressional investigation of what was done and not done and when. The truth will have to come out! They can't hide behind "National Security" this time.

And the revelation of all of this (on top of everything else that is breaking now) will bring down BushCo once and for all.

No "terraists" to blame this time. Just the Federal Goverment asleep at the wheel. This is the last straw.

Anybody with me on this?
