From the blog of an evacuee, whose girlfriend is still trapped in NOLA:
"She called me this afternoon to let me know that "Li'l Jon," who apparently lives across the street, yelled over to her this afternoon. He had a phone call. Was it rescue?
"Nah. I picked up the phone and it was a goddamn BILL COLLECTOR. I said, 'Yeah, I put the bill in the mail. But it's probably UNDERWATER. Good luck finding it.'"
Well, good for Li'l Jon.
There were rescue copters in her neighborhood today as the sun began to set. They indicated that they saw her distress signal (and that of Li'l Jon and her neighbors). So we are hopeful that they will be back in the morning.
Tomorrow will be 6 days without running water, but she has bottled water and canned food. Apparently the owner of the neighborhood store left it unlocked, and the neighbors "looted" the necessities with tenderness and dignity, taking only what they needed. She said Li'l Jon and the other folks didn't consider it looting, but "neighborhood shopping.""
