Did anyone hear Michael Chertoff on NPR yesterday?
The reporter asked him why FEMA and the federal government had not gotten water or food to the thousands of people at the convention center in NO, that there were dead bodies and people were in a panic. His response was that he wasn't going to respond just because there were "rumors" of people that were in trouble. The reporter told him they weren't rumors, they had reporters on site and there were photos on the internet. Chertoff said he didn't know if there were people there or not. But he had gotten food to the people in the Superdome so he felt like they were making great progress. A few hours later his spokesperson called NPR and said they found out there were thousands of people at the convention center and action was being taken.

The man's an idiot.

1. priceless
Yes, I heard that also. "I'm not going to argue..." !!!
Later, the follow-up was that Chertoff's office had called NPR back to confirm that they had indeed received additional reports about the convention center and that they were "checking them out"

This administration is nothing if not consistent - avoid blame at all costs, admit nothing.

2. Chertoff has zero experience with this sort of thing.
Has Bush ever chosen the right person for a job? Any job? Ever?

3. Laura Rozen has links and a transcript at her site
http://www.warandpiece.com

Both of the linked NPR stories are worth a listen. Chertoff making excuses and in denial, and Burnett at the convention center, with the people facing federally sponsored doom.

5. I expect to hear "Rescuin' is hard work!" later today.
I figure the idiot in charge will have to say something about how hard his job is.
