Well, there is one set of thin comforts we can gleen from all this:
The Chimp and his pack of incompetents, thieves and snake oil salespeople are now exposed for what they are for all the world to see, and all the world is talking about it as well. What we, here, have known since about Day 2 of his scabrous and pustulent tenure is now pretty much universal across the earth. TV anchors are going medieval on administration officials, foreign press is letting it all hang out and editorials are winding the administration's intestines up on a garden hose reel over its feeble and self-serving response. The callousness and cruelty to Neo-Conservative Republicanism has been dragged into the light of day for all the world to see, and no one likes it much.

Desperately sad, desperately sad that it had to come to this. The loss of life is still fully unknown and when it is, it will likely blow past staggering into realms little known.

I have long predicted that the lid would come off this nation by the 2006 elections. The lid is ajar and teetering. These guys work faster than I gave them credit for.

1. And What About the Risk of Terrorism
Where are all the terrorists that Bush wants us to be terrified of? It seems to me if we had to worry about our safety from terror, we would have seen an attack this week. We are so vulnerable. The real terror is our administration. Maybe those outside of DU will finally realize it.

2. I had been predicting "Out by August 2006"
but I may have been pessimistic (about the W regime's longevity) and optimistic (about America's ability to continue functioning despite Bushitler's attacks against our country). It's hard to see a clearer example of the danger this regime poses:

(1) Aimed every policy (energy, domestic, foreign) at burning as much oil as possible, thus heating the atmosphere and fueling these storms.

(2) Took away funding to improve the levees and protect New Orleans.

(3) Took away the National Guard needed to respond to disasters like this.

America is reeling from W's 1-2-3 sequential punch. Will we pick ourselves up and do something about it? I think so.
