1. I'm really worried
I don't understand why they don't take those folks to closeby cities and then go directly back for more

2. They are more concerned about looters than saving lives
people are looting to survive and the government doesn't want them to survive.

4. MSNBC is still showing their footage
If you didn't watch Countdown last night, watch it.

I suspect they're all over trying to find out what blew up. You know how that goes.

6. OK, I'm at work - so it's not the convention center that blew up?
I was thinking it maybe was. What a way for them to lessen the number of people they have to evacuate. Lack of sleep last night and must have woken up with my tinfoil hat on my head.

18. Some kind of chemical explosion
I am not sure of the details, just that there was an explosion at either a chemical plant or a refinery that FEMA says is "not toxic". Probably "not toxic" just like the air in NY after 9/11

7. This guy is blogging from NO. Somehow he's got internet.
I'm not sure, but he sounds like he's holed up with a generator and a few more people:

Cannot Confirm
One of the first things I do in the morning after my intitial security sweep of the building is check my messenger programs, email, and the comments section of this blog for the latest situation reports.

I cannot confirm the Superdome "chemical plant" explosion you guys are reporting. When Bravo Team becomes functional this morning, we're going to do a Medium Range Recon Patrol around our section of the CBD. We need to access the area for potential human threats, situational threats (burning buildings, etc.), flooding, potential evac routes, military and civilian authority presence, etc.

We bring the camera with us everywhere we go, whether it's to empty fuel into the tank or perform personal hygiene.

Everyone has secondary responsibilities. Crystal, for instance, has the secondary responsibility of organizing physical assets. Sigmund's secondary responsibility is photography. Donny's secondary responsibility is inter-team communication. My secondary responsibility is first aid. And so on.

Just because we're doing a security sweep, for instance, doesn't mean we can't also be doing something else.

Sig's got a ton more pictures to post today.

This just in: Team Bravo reports no fire visibility from the Dome, but there is smoke -- and where there's smoke...

We're headed to the roof to investigate.

11. NBC just showed a video. The reporter was basically dragged
Edited on Fri Sep-02-05 08:34 AM by peekaloo
there by a desperate man. Don't know how old the footage was but it showed the "living" conditions.....squalor would be an upgrade. The reporter stated 3 people died while they were filming. He did say some food and water had been dropped there but it's still a horrid, miserable sight.

p.s. Reprtedly filmed this a.m.

15. here here on that pulitzer
talk about a news organization making a 180 degree turn around. I guess seeing the misery first hand reminded these people what their jobs were. I'm sure the embed reporters in Iraq wish they could tell more truth but they have a gun to thier head (probably literally)
