1. I've wondered that, too.

There must be plenty of upper middle class/wealthy who have also been devasted by the floods. They may have gotten out OK, but no longer have a job to maintain their standard of living. Surely they are furious, too. Maybe we will hear more from them if the immediate crisis ever gets stabilized.

2. Last Friday I encountered a "Fair Tax" petition table outside a bookstore.....

It was the "Eliminate the Federal Tax" crowd. They were pushing Neil Boortz's book and calling on those of us in line to enter the bookstore to sign. Apparently, they have some scheme to eliminate Federal income taxes and replace it with some kind of voucher system??? (anyone in the know care to elaborate on this "plan"?) Anyway, they all look pretty well-off and it was before the storm really hit so I don't know if they would be there, say today, to push their tax-cutting scheme, considering how the Bush Administration f*cked-up whole Katrina disaster. I mean, how would it look for them to be seen screwing around with the funding for Federal programs while FEMA is nowhere to be seen?
