Jackson MS: Local authorities commandeering people's homes and cars |
|
My mom's friend who speaks limited English has been told she must provide food and shelter for 4 homeless people in Jackson. They will be delivered today. She still has power but little food as she has been feeding her neighbors most of whom are without power.
We have been calling her to tell her what is going on in her area as she is frightened, elderly and cut off...She has a radio but doesn't understand half of what is being said.
The authorities would have taken her car too, but it had no gas.
She's a little nervous about letting strangers into her home. I suspect they will be grateful to her for the shelter though.
Little dramas multiplied by hundreds of thousands!

1. These people must have a place to stay |
|
They will be grateful to her. God bless her and keep her strong as she is helping her neighbors and those who are coming to stay with her.

6. Ultimately, she'll be better off not being alone |
|
But I think all of us can understand her concerns. We will check up on her daily to make sure there's no problem.

But she's trying not to begrudge anyone who needs help. It's just that she's frail and frightened. We are her only source of info. And we are in the Pacific Northwest.

7. I live 20 miles away and have had electricity throughout the storm |

and I haven't heard anything at all about this. There are plenty of places where people are welcome to stay here and, while local citizens are being asked to help as they can, no one is being forced to do anything. I think she's just misunderstanding something due to the language barrior.
We're not under martial law and no one here has the right to force her to take anyone into her home. She should simply refuse and call one of the local television stations-they would love to get their hands on a story like that.

8. Four strangers to be delivered to her today |
|
She lives in Brandon Commons. I think she's too scared to say no. And it would be heartless.
