Imagine if this was a cat.5 at landfall
And landed about 20-30 miles west of New Orleans!! As you remember, it was looking like it was going to do exactly that, but then dry air got entrained into the system, and at the last minute, it turned straight to the north. If you thought the situation in New Orleans was bad now just think how the city would look if that senario actually happened. HORRIBLE!!!!

4. I have to agree - I think that is what they were hoping for
blivet** does fine when he arrives and bodies are already buried in rubble. He doesn't do the "comfort" thing so well.

2. Hell, you're asking me to imagine?
If I imagine, what I come up with is I think they were counting on the Cat 5, and the fact that they didn't get that direct hit has mandated THIS horrible farce of a "aid/recovery/rescue" effort.

I think they're having to build the disaster, because numbers dead don't add up to what they calculated as necessary for...whatever shit it is being planned.

Unless we're to belive they didn't anticipate huricannes to this area. This year. With faulty levee protection and stripped wetlands.

Either they're THAT stupid...or this was no surprise at all, along with the lihop aftermath.

People have laughed at me over the years for mistrusting our government. Any conspiracy theories, things that looked fishy, stories that didn't add up, witnesses that directly contradicted the "official story", and for all that, in the end it boiled down to thinking "they'd never do that to us". Now I wonder if those same people still think that. The names I've been called. Now, they all just fall away. It hardly matters. Hardly matters if I was right.

3. After seeing the videos of all of the damage, I think they're going to....
...have to re-evaluate their assessment. IMHO, based on the storm surge and widespread damage, Katrina was definitely a Cat 5 storm.

Remember, Andrew was raised to a Cat 5 two years after it struck Florida.

5. I have no doubt Katrina will be upgraded

This hurricane was more destructive and caused far greater loss of life than Camille. It will be a while before anyone knows how many have died, but the death toll will be horrendous.
