Do you know what it means to miss New Orleans?
Edited on Fri Sep-02-05 11:24 AM by GumboYaYa
Do you know what it means to miss New Orleans
And miss it each night and day
I know I'm not wrong, the feeling's getting stronger
The longer I stay away

Miss the moss-covered vines, tall sugar pines
Where mockingbirds used to sing
I'd love to see that old lazy Mississippi
Hurrying into Spring

The moonlight on the bayou
A Creole tune that fills the air
I dream about magnolias in bloom
And I'm wishin I was there

Do you know what it means to miss New Orleans
When that's where you left your heart
And there's one thing more, I miss the one I care for
More than I miss New Orleans

Louis Armstrong

Once you have New Orleans in your soul it never leaves. Please keep our city in your hearts and minds as we deal with this tragedy.

2. I'm in St. Louis now.
I grew up in Losuisiana. My wife and I fell in love in New Orleans and were engaged and married there. My first child was conceived in New Orleans.

3. God Damnit
I'm bawling. I loved living there. I listened to a radio station that used to play all those good New Orleans songs like "Audobon Zoo" Shit - speaking of which, wonder how that place is with all those animals.

6. The zoo actually was spared some of the worst flooding..
..although with no water for so long, the consequences for the animals must be dire.

9. Do the animals need purified water?
I wonder how much extra food they have.

I've seen lots of pics of Uptown and there was almost no flooding from St. Charles to Tchopitoulas.

7. My favorite city
I've been fortunate enough to visit there twice, and you're so right - "Once you have New Orleans in your soul it never leaves."

and I will never forget NO. I never NEVER thought in my wildest dreams I would see the disgrace of this country as I have seen with this disaster.

I couldn't sleep last night for thinking of the Audobon Zoo and the Aquarium on the Riverwalk. What about the animals? What has happened to them? I saw the rails that go around the city underwater. Then there's many many Mardi Gras', Pat O's, the Jazz Festival, the historic buildings. Memories, memories, memories...

I just can't believe this...

12. I read on a post yesterday (with quotes from the directors)...
that the Audubon Zoo and Aquarium (and animals) were fine so far. They did lose some flamingos during the hurricane.

10. That song has been running through my head for days now.
Wasn't it the theme song for the sitcom Frank's Place? That was a great show.

15. I remember hearing that song on WWL-AM
on my first transistor radio that I got for Christmas when I was 7 years old. That radio was my window to the outside world back then, and I used to go to sleep with it set to WWL-- broadcasting live from the Roosevelt Hotel.

of all my favorite places to go in New Orleans and I can't believe they're gone. The enormity of it all really hasn't sunk in yet.

18. I fais do do!!!
Been on the road three weeks
with hardly a day off it seems,
but my heart keeps calling me home,
Home to New Orleans

From Boston to San Francisco Bay
From Wyoming to Austin we've played.
Seen the mountains and streams,
Now it's home to New Orleans

Home to New Orleans.
Where the bayou
and the gumbo wait for me.
To the moss covered vines,
where the Mississippi winds,
Home to New Orleans

America, I love you so,
the land of freedom and dreams,
but my heart keeps calling me home,
Home to New Orleans

Home to New Orleans.
Where the bayou
and the gumbo wait for me.
To the moss covered vines
where the Mississippi winds,
Home to New Orleans

I sure miss my home in New Orleans
-Queen Ida/Dennis Geyer

Tears streaming down my cheeks as I type this. Goodbye to America's most unique city. Haven't been in 10 years, my wife and I were plaaning to visit next spring. C'est la vie. Au Revoir mon ami.

21. That's exactluy right.....
You ain't seen nothing yet, our people are hurting now, but they are strong. We will be back. New Orleans has touched people the world over. All those people carry a piece of it inside them. New Orleans may be down, but it's a damn far way from out.

20. I had many a good time in New Orleans
I'll never forget it. I hope there will be a time when I can enjoy it again. There wasn't another city like it in the world, the music, the culture, the history, the architecture the friendliness of its people. And the food, oh the food.
