Cannot believe New Orleans is GONE!

I've never even been there. Imagine the shock of the people who live there. All the good times. The families. All of it. GONE!

Our entire nation is in shock. This is a loss of the greatest magnitude and the monkey plays guitar. All of us are mourning.
He has no compassion. Probably cannot even pronounce it.
I want our lawmakers to take his ass down.

New Orleans is a city that probably shouldn’t have come into existence, but it did, in spite of being located in an inhospitable malarial swamp; a city built by the blood and sweat of slaves that was once one of the richest cities in the world — because it was one of the centers of the world slave trade. And because of that, New Orleans became a city with a complicated color code, which made it possible for Creoles, those octoroons and quadroons, to prosper, and sometimes allowed them to slip through to the other side and become white — “Jean Toomer” white, “Jelly Roll Morton” white, “Anatole Broyard” white.

1. This city has a constituency far and wide across the country.
I heard NOLA Mayor Ray Nagin make this point today. NOLA is special and in the hearts of many. I'm pissed, you're pissed, and people all over the country are simply furious a) because no people deserve this mis treatment and b) those of us who dearly love this city are realizing that it will be a long time.

5. It truly is a modern day Atlantis
There will never be anything like it again.

I hope they rebuild. But how can they? The people will be gone. A ghost town.

Yes we're pissed. National landmarks mean nothing to this monster.

IMPEACH BUSH and Bring Our Sons and Daughters HOME!

2. I've been there several times... it is (was) one of America's
Great Cities, without a doubt.

The fact that this admin, through intent or incompetence, allowed that city to flood is simply unforgivable.

The entire adminsitration should be impeached and jailed for their criminal incompetence, IMO.

4. It's a shame you've never been to New Orleans because it's a
very special place; the only place like it in the US. But you will get a chance to go because we're all going to see that it is rebuilt before Bagdad is rebuilt, and if we have to throw out everybody in Wash DC to do it, so be it. New Orleans will rise again, I have faith in that.

8. Yeah you right...People who think New Orleans is dead
just don't appreciate how much the people who live there or have lived there love the place. I never feel like I'm truly at home until I cross the Causeway exit on I-10. Then I know I'm headed to New Orleans proper and life is good.

All the trauma of the folks stranded there has really gotten to us.

It's the spirit though, right? I just saw yours.

11. That's right. Let's take care of our people first.
Once we do that we can start focusing on rebuilding our city. Don't let the sadness overwhelm you. Focus on the little things we can do to help. There are lots of us; like ants, even us "litte people" pulling the same direction, can change the world.

Not to minimize the wreckage that monkey boy is allowing there.. those poor people. How dare he.
Legislature unite and IMPEACH, prosecute to the fullest extent of the Law, to which you have sworn your allegiance.

NOLA is a NATIONAL MONUMENT fer crisakes! Just like the Arctic.
Nothing is sacred to these monsters.

Save NOLA. Now. We, the People will do it. He is totally incompetent at anything other than cracking a good ole boy grin.

Yes. I am more than PISSED!

14. Oddly enough, the Quarter received only mininmal flooding..
..and wind damage from what I heard. The big problem right now is the damage caused by looters.

15. NOLA is a special place...
Edited on Fri Sep-02-05 12:02 PM by pointblank
They must rebuild it and protect it.

The only way I can describe NOLA is this:

There are only a few places that i have evr been, and I have traveled a lot, and New Orleans is one of those places that always strikes up that 'feeling' when i think about it and when I am there.

I don't know if any of you know what I mean by that 'feeling', but that is the only way I can describe it. very few places conjure up the feeling in my soul like NOLA does...New York, ironically is another one...they are very special places, not common I guess would be another way to describe how I feel about it...

Anyone know what I mean?...or am I just wacky? :silly:

17. Robert Frost once said..
..there are three definitive cities in America: New York, New Orleans and San Francisco. This isn't meant as a slight to anyone else's home town, but there's something about New Orleans, like you said, that defies description. I am heartbroken to see it fall under such dire circumstances.

22. I'm in Texas and we are
receiving an influx of refugees. One of my friends works at a grocery store. When I spoke to her a couple of days ago, she had seen a lot of NOLA people through her line that day. She was devastated and kept telling me it was GONE! I kept asking her, you mean Gone, as in forever? Maybe her vibes have influenced my reaction a little. Like I said, I rarely watch tv .. use the internet.

But it does appear that NOLA, as we know her is, okay let's say temporarily out of commission. She can revive. The Gulf will be a total disaster for decades, from what I've read. Another friend of mine used to be a cook on an offshore. She has an elaborate plan to determine toxic waste, which I do not understand, but I trust she knows what she's talking about.

I may be a little hyped up and thanks to you all for your reassurance. This doesn't have to be a national 'panic' situation does it? Just get the relief in there! Even though when I bought gas this morning, the worker told me he has been calling for refills and none are coming yet.

I think we absolutely must start pumping positive vibes into this situation. Thanks. I'm usually the calm one in any crisis. Just not this time.

21. Wounded, but not gone.
Home to New Orleans,
where the bayou
and the gumbo wait for me.
To the moss covered vines
where the Mississippi winds,
Home to New Orleans

- Queen Ida

Sad day for all of us who've been there and understand what a unique place it is.
