Mayor to feds: 'Get off your asses'
The following is a transcript of WWL correspondent Garland Robinette's interview with Nagin on Thursday night. Robinette asked the mayor about his conversation with President Bush:

NAGIN: I told him we had an incredible crisis here and that his flying over in Air Force One does not do it justice. And that I have been all around this city, and I am very frustrated because we are not able to marshal resources and we're outmanned in just about every respect.

1. We need to pinpoint the exact moment that the White House
was asked for help. When did they make themselves available? Because Bush is now saying that they didn't act sooner because no one called them.

4. according to the WaPo
Reps were calling for 48 hours. (8th paragraph in link below)

<snip>
Rep. Charles W. Boustany Jr., (R-La.), said he spent the past 48 hours urging the Bush administration to send help. "I started making calls and trying to impress upon the White House and others that something needed to be done," he said. "The state resources were being overwhelmed, and we needed direct federal assistance, command and control, and security -- all three of which are lacking."

6. since when did there need to be a "call"
to the president that his domain was in great trouble. We wait for a call from a foreign country, not our own.
IMPEACH BUSH AND SEND HIM TO THE HAGUE

2. But didn't have any plans of doing anything
until his vacation was over. That's the way he thinks.

8. If this doesn't wake America up to fact that W's Admin. is incompetent
there is no hope for us. How many more must die because of their inhumanity and gross negligence?

NAGIN: Organize people to write letters and make calls to their congressmen, to the president, to the governor. Flood their doggone offices with requests to do something. This is ridiculous.

I don't want to see anybody do anymore goddamn press conferences. Put a moratorium on press conferences. Don't do another press conference until the resources are in this city. And then come down to this city and stand with us when there are military trucks and troops that we can't even count.
