FEMA refusing to give reporter a death toll
I understand that they may not have a solid
number yet, as it is constantly growing,
but I also suspect that they may want
to protect BushCo. ???

1. I'm going to give them this one - they don't have one
With the chaos over there, they couldn't possibly.

6. just counting the floaters would be one way. but FEMA doesn't know
about them, either, do they? Just like the Civic center?

But I agree, let's treat and find and feed the living, then count up the full nature of this disaster.

2. FEMA didn't know that folks were holed up in the Convention
Center - why the hell would anyone expect them to be able to give any sort of estimate on the death toll?

5. They aren't even picking up bodies in NO
I know MS and AL have counts they're lowballing.

I bet there are 50,000 people dead in all three states. At least.

7. Prediction: five figures
They know the elvel of the devestation and they know it's too huge to even consider releasing anything resembling numbers yet.

Gulfport, just one city, reported 110 dead the first day. Then all reports stopped. The first day, you barely touch any bodies.

The toll in New Orleans is going to be devestating to the nation. This is also why they wanted NOBODY registering at the Superdome and Convention Center. Had they registered upon arrival, the death toll from dehydration would be discernible.
