that some members of Free Republic and DU have chosen this point in time to wage war upon one another.

If you must point to failures by respective parties, do so in your appropriate places. That's fine, it's a free country.

Meanwhile, let's not lose focus. This is not your party's convention week. This is not the day after a Bush-Kerry debate. This is not election day. This is a human tragedy. This is real life, folks.

This is a time where we need to band together - not under some arbitrary and harmful banner of patriotism or partisanship, but under the banner of humanity and compassion. There are millions of people suffering today. Politics will still be there tomorrow, but many of our friends, family, and colleagues in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida may not be.

So let's set aside these flame wars for just a few days. This is no time to be attacking each other, expending energy on something as insignificant as an internet bulletin board. Again, I have no problem with making your points known in the appropriate places - after all, that's what these boards are here for. The childish troll battles, however, need to stop.
