The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints encourages its members to
prepare for natural disasters and acquire a year's supply of food.

I hope some researcher uses the NO disaster to compare survival results among LDS members with other religious and non-religious segments of society.

5. What the OP meant
Members of the Church of Latter Day Saints will stockpile supplies as a matter of church doctrine. The OP wasn't referring to the NO flood in particular.

When I was kid we bought a house that had be previously owned by a Mormon family. The pantry was GIGANTIC. It's now my mother's sewing room.

And I imagine that Mormons are contributing to this disaster in the same ways and ratios that we all are.

7. That was my impression too
That LDS had a long-standing plan to stockpile food.
I have been musing over buying an extra cartridge for my backpacking water filter. Buy one for mom, too.
