That's what the Salvation Army guy said yesterday. The building is gone, but there's supposed to be a canteen at the site. Don't know if they've gotten in new supplies or not.

8. Folks, this is for 2006...

... not just to plump up Bush's ratings. The emphasis on a "center" is meant to suggest that the Salvation Army is ready and waiting to care for people even better and faster than the government could--it's about having a film clip to prove that his "faith-based initiatives" work and work well, thus relieving the government of any obligation to serve its citizens.

This is all part of the plan. Transfer government obligations to private charities, pay those charities a little government money to assume the responsibility, and once they have, jerk the funding.

That's what it's all about, and this clip and others will be future advertising toward that end--carefully edited, of course, to show a dutifully concerned President extolling the virtues of private citizens doing good works.

It's pure hokum, with a snake oil salesman's pitch. It doesn't matter that there's no "center" left and nothing but a canteen truck. That won't be in the finished ads.

This is propaganda at its worst.
