Florida calls for energy conservation. But will football go on?

As a vendor with the state of Jeb Florida, I have received this today from the Florida Dept. of Management. Does this mean they will call off our weekly football mecca?

Subject: STATE OF FLORIDA ENERGY CONSERVATION REQUEST

Dear ,,,,

The damage Hurricane Katrina did to natural gas and gasoline production and distribution facilities will place a strain on our electricity providers and on our gasoline supplies.

As one of Florida's largest employers, effective immediately, we are leading by example and implementing energy conservation measures at all Department of Management Services Facilities around the state.

As a partner with the State of Florida, we request that you implement similar measures at your place of business. By taking these relatively small actions, your company can contribute significantly to hurricane relief efforts.

We are asking that you implement the following guidelines:
1. Turn off and unplug all non-essential equipment.

2. Turn off and unplug all non-essential, personal appliances, including microwave ovens, coffee pots, refrigerators, toaster ovens, etc. (exceptions are those devices that serve in central locations such as break rooms).

3. Turn off all lights, computers and office equipment at night.

4. If applicable and safe, turn off overhead lighting during the day.

5. Adjust air conditioning thermostats slightly upward.

6. Evaluate and adjust travel plans.

7. Use hybrid vehicles when possible.

8. If applicable, evaluate and implement opportunities for employees to telecommute.

Your employees can also assist by applying similar guidelines at home. Turning off air conditioning when leaving for work; keeping lights off when no one is in a room and using ceiling fans go a long way. We also have suggested conserving gasoline by reducing the number of trips and carpooling.

We are Americans. We don't suffer while another part of that nation is going through the worst natural disaster in our lifetimes. I mean, we should go shopping right? It worked for Condi and it worked for NYC too.
