Hey, Freeps saying "no one's trying ON THEIR OWN" -- (pic heavy)
Edited on Fri Sep-02-05 02:25 PM by bertha katzenengel
EDIT: these photos are from a slideshow on WWLTV.com out of LA.

To freepers who say "no one's trying to get out or get help on their own; they're all waiting with their hands out" -- choke on this

Days after Hurricane Katrina's strike, those remaining in New Orleans struggled for a way out.

Kimi Seymour, 27, takes a break along I-10 as she walks to the Superdome.

As the National Guard patrols, Louis Jones, 81, left, and Catherine McZeal, 62, help each other walk down flooded Poydras St. as they head to the Superdome on Thursday.

Lt. David McDavid of Zachary, La., stands on guard with an AR-15 along I-10 as Waynell Jamison walks by.

Refugees* of Hurricane Katrina, Lernell Watson, pushing Pamela Powal, 49, left, and Patricia Cyres, 56, right, up the ramp to I-10 as he was trying to find Ms. Cyres some help for her breathing problems on Thursday.

Refugees of Hurricane Katrina roam I-10 in search of a place to go.

Melba Harris, 86, lays on I-10 Thursday afternoon, near the Elysian Fields exit. She has been there for two days with no food and very little water.

Evacuees ride in a water truck as they leave New Orleans toward Baton Rouge on Business 90.

Volunteer Paul Mire of Destrehan, La, center, drives his boat out after rescuing residents at the Corpus Christi School.

* my dictionary reads in part "one who flees in search of refuge" and that's good enough for me. If you disagree w/ the adjective, take it up with WWLTV.com.

3. This isn't the America I know...
...where people are treated like animals. But we are slowly coming apart unless the current "leaders" are replaced as soon as possible.

14. Thank you for the pictures.
So much better than mere words.

For some reason some of the shots I find most poignant are those of people who appear to have no one left but their pets and go through such great effort to save them. That last picture is a prime example.

The shot I saw yesterday of the guy with his three cats in a big covered plastic bin wading through the water, etc.

19. I'd like to see them wade through
infested, raw-sewage, oil-filled water for miles in the triple degree heat.

I'd like to see them carry what little they had and walk on those broken highways for miles and miles with no food and water trying desperately to find help.

Wait, nevermind. I still have my sense of humanity and I wouldn't wish this on anyone.

But those souless fuckers should think before they open their ignorant mouths and try to consider what it's like to get out of there.
