Astrodome full? How about tent cities on Golf Courses?
A lot of useable, wide open space with water. Does Houston have plenty of golf courses?

1. Lots of usable, wide open space
And extremely hot and humid. Not to mention in the midst of a thunderstorm system.

But other than that, a top notch idea.

2. Yes, they should, but...
It's not gonna happen. Bush's buddies need their recreation. <__<

Aresef's fun fact: If golf were outlawed tomorrow, it would free up enough land to equal the size of New Jersey. Such land would also be enough to house the nation's homeless (Pre-Katrina. The current validity of that statistic is not known.).

7. They have air conditioned shelters all over Texas
No need to leave the people in the heat in a tent city.
That would be insult to injury.

9. What about military bases?
Most have lots of big buildings and/or open land for tent cities. The security and support personel are already there along with all the supplies or the means to get supplies there.

I thought there was a huge army base in Biloxi.

14. The "old" bases that have been closed could
be used. In a lot of them, all is still there and they would have at least a home for awhile - They could have the air and heat going in no time and people could be in their own places - not in some dome somewhere.

they say we don't have enough Oil Refineries......Texas has a coast line .I believe this is where they are bulit.right.or can they be built inland.......with all these people out of work Our American Citizens misplaced at this time.why not let them build a few refineries..the building or rigs would be a help.............maybe not the tec part of it...but it would be a start for the oil companies and the displaced citizens.

21. The envionmentalists would sue to stop ANY new refinery.
First you need to enact legislation to clear the legal way. But that would be seen as helping the oil companies and would raise a scream of protest.

Other than that, it sounds like a good idea.

20. Why not an empty pasture?
Lots of idle farm land in Texas. Other than satisfying your emotional desire to hurt the rich, is there an advantage of a gold course over an idle farm field. I know some that aren't even owned by a farmer. A real estate speculator bought them and is letting them sit, waiting for land prices to go up. The use would only be temporary so after a few months the speculator would have it back, none the worse for wear.

The water on a golf course may not be drinkable. All of your other problems would remain.

The vacant field, of course, has the drawback of not injuring a rich person.

22. Also on a golf course
most of the grass is chemically treated (pesticides, fertilizers, etc.). Not only would the water hazards be dangerous, but the land itself would be also.
