New Orleans has risen from near-total disaster before
and will do so again -- unless Bush**co prevents them from doing so.

On March 21, 1788, fire swept through the city (then confined to what is today called the French Quarter). Over nine hundred buildings -- eighteen entire city blocks -- were lost.

This tragedy, too, was exacerbated by human inaction. For March 21, 1788, was Good Friday, and the church authorities (none, to my knowledge, named Mike Brown) would not allow the bells, which also served as the city's fire alarm, to be rung.

By 1791, most of the city had been rebuilt. See y'all down there in 2008!

In lieu of a sig line: New Orleans. Now and forever.

2. Yes, but the federal government wasn't holding its head underwater before
It's different now.

There is no government any more.

We are on our own.

3. True to a point. Re-building wood structures is a LOT easier than
re-building modern infrastructure. NO was much smaller 200 years ago and the chemical spills would have been much less severe.

But I would like to see the Democratic Parties Convention there in '08.

4. Another righteous idea from the Krewe of DU!
I would like to see the Democratic Parties Convention there in '08.

If they do, I will work extra hard to maybe possibly become a delegate!

Mayor Nagin gets to give a prime-time speech even though he's a DINO.
