100,000 remained in the city. Lets be uber conservative and say 80,000

If they have shipped 25,000 out and 25,000 or so are at the convention center/dome. That is 50,000 left throughout out the city.

say another 20,000 got out somehow before the floods.

Say 10,000 city residents are in their homes and ok (idiots though they may be) even though everyone had been ordered out.

That leaves 20,000 missing and it being over 5 days now in stifling heat and no water... I have little hope they are alive.


Am I off in my math? for God's sake I hope so.

did not have transportation. Many of them, especially the sick and the elderly could not get out with out assistance. Bush was too busy on vacation to bother to send any assistance.

the 2000 census siad there were 484,000 residents.

You have tofundge that up a bit because ot census undercounting plus you have 5 uears of modest population growth.

SO 500,00 residents seems plausible if not consrviative. byt that would mean 5 epople per household to lonly have 100,000.

8. I'm going to throw out a ray of hope

After 9/11 the missing toll went up as high as 7000, and then receded downward as names were found to be double counted, and others made contact with family, but not the rescue services. The final toll at the WTC was a little over 2800.

I just have to believe that there is the chance that this scenario could play out again this way.
