Why does Nero ask us to send cash???
Just whose responsibility is it to give aid to the storm victims?

What the hell is a government for?

This tragedy and the reaction really points out the difference between Democrats and Republicans. We care about people. We think that taking care of people is the primary responsibility of our government.

The Repukelicans, on the other hand, believe these people freely chose to stay and not evacuate. They believe most of the victims are lazy welfare recipients who have earned their fate. And if they need help, it is certainly not the government's responsibility.

2. And
this will make even the poorest of us keep reaching repeatedly into our pockets, while the tax-exempt upper crust are pulling oil-stock dividend checks out of their mailboxes....

and didja notice how the Salvation Army---a scary term in itself---jumped to the head of the line of suggested donations?

shame upon shame, for Bush and his ilk

4. They are trying to define humanitarian relief as a PRIVATE sector
responsibility.

I suspect the majority of Americans disagree with this point of view. I can only hope.

6. This is compassionate conservatism.
We don't need Social Security because families should shoulder the burden of their elderly.

We don't need social programs because you are supposed to contribute to charities so they look after the destitute.

Oh, yes, don't complain about paying taxes because Halliburton needs the contracts.
